Each aircraft was manned by two pilots. One pair, consisting of a Greek and a Danish national, was pronounced deceased following the crash, while the other two pilots were found alive. Nearly 500 firefighters continue to battle out-of-control fires west of Athens, with reinforcements from France and Romania also coming in to assist. More than 10,0000 hectares of land have been affected by the blaze, causing hundreds of people to be evacuated from their homes.
