COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KXRM) — One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting that occurred during the early morning hours on Monday, June 23.

At around 1 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call regarding shots fired at an apartment located in the 1400 block of Michelle Court, near Fountain Boulevard and Murray Boulevard. Officers began investigating and encountered a man who was holding a firearm.

According to CSPD Officer Daniel Short, officers gave commands to the man, and at that time, the suspect raised his firearm and shot at least once towards officers. Two officers then fired at least one shot at the man.

The suspect was declared dead. No officers or community members were injured in the shooting.

According to Short, all parties involved are accounted for. Police are still investigating the incident, but the area has been deemed safe.

Per Colorado law, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office is the lead investigating agency for the officer-involved shooting. Within 21 days, CSPD will release body-worn camera footage, a significant event briefing video, and other relevant facts pertaining to the case.
