DENVER (KDVR) — A man is dead and another is seriously injured after police said two people were hit while walking on the shoulder of North Himalaya Road in Aurora on Sunday night.

On Sunday, around 9:41 p.m., the Aurora Police Department said officers responded to a report of an auto-pedestrian crash on North Himalaya Road, just north of East 64th Avenue in Aurora.

Based on the initial investigation, the department said three men were walking southbound on the shoulder of the road when two of them were hit from behind by a woman driving a Mazda sedan.

The two men were taken to the hospital. The department said one is dead, while another victim is still in the hospital with serious injuries. At this time, the victims and the driver have not been identified.

Both the third pedestrian and the driver stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. The department said no one is in custody at this time, and alcohol doesn't seem to be a factor.

The investigation is ongoing, and traffic investigators will reconstruct the crash to see if there are any aggravated factors leading to the crash and will file any charges then.

This isn't the first traffic death recently. The department said this marks the 18th deadly crash in Aurora this year.
