It's out with the group stage and in with the knockouts, as Stephen Eustaquio’s stoppage-time strike sealed co-hosts Canada a 1-0 World Cup win against South Africa and a place in the last 16.
Canada captain Eustaquio lashed home from the edge of the box in the second minute of added time at the Los Angeles Stadium to clinch Jesse Marsch’s side a round of 16 tie against Morocco or the Netherlands in Houston next weekend.
England, meanwhile, secured top spot in their group with a laboured 2-0 victory over Panama on Saturday in New Jersey, with Jude Bellingham and record breaker Harry Kane scoring in the second half.
The win wasn't without its issues, however. England's right-back curse struck again with an injury to Jarell Quansah, giving Thomas Tuchel a headache for Wednesday's clash with DR Congo in Atlanta at 5pm UK time.
Elsewhere, Lionel Messi became the first player to score in seven consecutive World Cup matches. The Argentine enjoyed a much better night than Cristiano Ronaldo, whose Portugal side were held to a 0-0 draw by Colombia and will now face Croatia.
But sadly for Scotland, their fate was finally sealed in the early hours of Sunday morning, joining fellow third-placed teams Iran, South Korea and Uruguay in exiting. Manager Steve Clarke, who was given a new four-year contract last month, has already announced his resignation.

'Watchalong' expected to attract huge crowd

Mexico won’t be playing their last 32 knockout game in Houston.
But thanks to the generosity of MLS side the Houston Dynamos, all those who support Mexico can go along to the club’s Shell Energy Stadium to watch the clash on a selection of big screens.
The ‘watchalong’ is expected to attract a huge crowd.
Houston has a large population of Mexicans, who have been flooding into the city’s Fan Zone to watch World Cup matches since the tournament kicked off.
There will be food and drink, interactive activities and other planned entertainment.
Joint hosts Mexico are still waiting to find out who their opponents will be.
Ecuador appear to be the most likely to be facing them in the iconic Azteca Stadium.

South Africa reaction after World Cup exit
His South Africa side might have been beaten 1-0, but goalkeeper Ronwen Williams said: "So proud of the boys to show our quality. We wanted to come here and compete.
“We can leave here with our heads high. Proud of the boys. The effort, the fight, the character. We keep fighting.
“We didn't have the best start to the tournament. Our backs were against the wall, but to come out today and show up, show our work.
“Can only be proud. It's a very young team. It is good lessons for them now going into the future but we can be proud."
While South Africa manager Hugo Broos said: "I'm still just as proud as two or three days ago.
“I think we had a good World Cup but today, when we play against a team like this, with power and speed then we're running behind.
“This is something we have to learn. And therefore it was important for this team that we were here."

Canada boss Jesse Marsch addressed his side in a huddle following the game, and he said: "Guys. Think about the two years we've been together.
"Think about how we talked about sticking to the plan, sticking to who we want to be, playing aggressive, accessing the quality, you guys showing your character.
"You guys are Canadian heroes. Canadian heroes. Canadian heroes for the future children of this country, who play this sport.
“This sport has a big future because of you guys. You should be so proud of who you are. You should be so proud of this game. You went after it, moment after moment. You are Canadian heroes."

Just over 10 minutes gone in the second half, and neither side have managed to carve out an opening yet. The passing in the final third has left a lot to be desired. Just a couple of minutes ago, Nathan Saliba picked up the first booking of the game. The atmosphere also feels incredibly flat, which is perhaps understandable given how both sides struggle to produce some real quality.

Now, I said that Jesse Marsch was fuming that his side were not awarded a penalty in first-half stoppage time, but ITV have just shown pictures of the Canada boss being held back by Moise Bombito as he made his way onto the pitch to try and speak to referee Joao Pedro Silva Pinheiro.

France's players gasped as Jude Bellingham put England ahead

Video footage has emerged online showing France's players gasping as Jude Bellingham opened the scoring for England against Panama on Saturday.
Several Les Bleus stars were getting rubdowns at their Boston training base while watching the action on a screen.
Didier Deschamps, now back in North America following the passing of his mother, had also poked his head around the door.
The video shows Bellingham peeling off to celebrate putting England ahead.
The two nations currently cannot meet until the World Cup final.
France captain Kylian Mbappe obviously plays with Bellingham at club level, and defender Ibrahima Konate is set to join the pair at the Bernabeu after the tournament.

No goals in the opening 45 minutes, but Canada really should be ahead. First, Derek Cornelius should have scored with a free header midway through the half. South Africa might have had a difficult start to the 2026 World Cup - but defender Teboho Mokoena believes his side can reach the final four.
He said: "The boys feel we can go to the semi-finals. We are brothers. We just enjoy each other's company, we respect one another, we respect the coach.
"When we are happy, we sing. When we are sad, not so much. When we are happy we sing and that's how we unite ourselves as South Africans.
"We are different, you can see. When we arrive we sing, that's how we bring ourselves together and be in one state of mind. Singing is part of our culture here."

Alphonso Davies theory
The big news from Canada team news is that there is still no start for Alphonso Davies.
The Bayern Munich star was an unused substitute for all three of his side’s group games, and Duncan Ferguson believes him starting on the bench again tonight means Canada must still have concerns over the 25-year-old’s fitness.
He said: “I never got a hamstring injury, I was too slow. Alphonso Davies is very quick, it's a worry he's not starting today and he's not played since May. Canada must be unsure, otherwise he would be starting.”
