PROTECT YOURSELF with Orgo-Life® QUANTUM TECHNOLOGY
Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayI didn’t get a ton of reading done in September: it was mostly graphic novels. I did reread Taiwan Travelogue by Yáng Shuāng-zǐ, translated by Lin King, for my book club, which I highly recommend. It ended up being our most animated discussion yet, because there were a lot of differing opinions.
Then, I read Python’s Kiss: Stories by Louise Erdrich. I really liked some of the stories, but there were several that included dog deaths/animal cruelty that really took me out of the story. That’s not a fault of the collection, though; it just wasn’t a great match for me. I am looking forward to reading more Louise Erdrich, though, because I loved The Sentence.
As for graphic novels, I reread Heartstopper, Volumes 1 & 2 by Alice Oseman… again… Similarly, I picked up Tripping Over You, Volumes 1 & 2 by Suzana Harcum and Owena White, which is a slice-of-life YA M/M graphic novel series I liked.

Finally, I read Legends & Lattes: The Graphic Novel by Travis Baldree, adapted by Samuel Sattin, and illustrated by Shanti Rittgers and Sarah Webb (which completes Task #9: Read a romantasy book with a queer and/or BIPOC main character). It comes out on October 6th, and I loved it! The original novel is a favourite of mine, but I like it even better as a graphic novel. It’s the perfect comforting cozy fantasy read, with a sweet F/F romance.
I’m currently reading Beware Her Fury by Mirion Malle, translated by Aleshia Jensen, which is a graphic novel about a queer woman trying to process the rage she has about her sexual assault. It’s not an easy subject to read about, but it’s really well done, and I especially like the queer community Clemence has around her.
As for my October TBR, it’s totally out of control. I’ve maxed out my library holds and have stacks of ARCs and owned books to choose from, too.
I plan to read a ton of queer horror this month. Here are just a few of them I’ll be choosing between:
- Spoiled Milk by Avery Curran (Task #6: Read a gothic novel published in the last ten years)
- You Weren’t Meant to Be Human by Andrew Joseph White
- Your Beloved Remains by Quinn Connor
- Feast While You Can by Mikaella Clements and Onjuli Datta
- Muñeca by Cynthia Gómez
I’ve also got a few Indigenous horror books I’m hoping to read in October, including Savage Lake and The Whistler by Nick Medina, as well as It Looks Like You in the Dark by Mathilda Zeller.
Plus, I somehow have also convinced myself I’ll be able to squeeze in some non-horror reads, especially:
- Beyond the Glittering World: An Anthology of Indigenous Feminisms and Futurisms edited by Stacie Shannon Denetsosie, Kinsale Drake, and Darcie Little Badger
- Seasons of Glass and Iron: Stories by Amal El-Mohtar
- Moss’d in Space by Rebecca Thorne (Task #20: Read a book set in space)
- Queer and How We Got Here: A (Personal) History by Hazel Newlevant (Task #13: Read a nonfiction comic)
I’m well aware I’m fully delusional. But there’s nothing wrong with having a big reading appetite and lots to choose from! Enough about my October TBR, though: what’s on yours?
