TMC claims BJP behind arson attack on Siliguri office, shares video

NEW DELHI: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday accused the BJP of “crossing all limits” after claiming that one of its party offices in Siliguri was set on fire, sharing a video of the alleged incident on social media.

The party said the act reflected a “thirst for destruction.”The allegation comes against the backdrop of multiple reported attacks on TMC offices across West Bengal as the 2026 Assembly election results reshape the state’s political landscape.

In Asansol’s Godhuli area, a TMC office was allegedly vandalised on Monday, with furniture destroyed and flags, posters and banners torn down. Earlier in the day, another office in Dumurjala in Howrah was also targeted, with visuals showing broken windows, scattered furniture and party flags thrown onto the road.

These mark at least the second and third such incidents reported within hours.

Tensions have also spilled over into direct confrontations. In Cooch Behar, Bishu Dhar, TMC president of Dinhata Town Block, was allegedly attacked outside a counting centre. “We are members of the Trinamool Congress. We move forward with courage. I knew they would attack me, yet I still walked in. This is the culture of the BJP,” he said.

The violence has unfolded as the BJP registers a sweeping victory in the state, winning 206 of 294 seats, according to the Election Commission of India. The TMC secured around 80 seats, marking a dramatic reversal of fortunes for the party led by Mamata Banerjee.
