Throughout the last year, Daniel Yang of Neuhaus Metalworks and the Yang MFG YouTube channel has consistently produced some of the best bike-related videos out there. Applying his deep knowledge of engineering and fabrication to everyday topics from across the world of bikes, his short releases are uniquely insightful, informative, and approachable. Cast bike parts may not be a particularly thrilling topic, but for anyone who enjoys a How It’s Made-style video and likes learning something new, it’s well worth a watch.
Using lost wax casting enables manufacturers to produce affordable and high-quality bike parts. Although the process has been used to create bike parts for over a century, Daniel says that casting knowledge is slowly disappearing. In the video above, he visits the CWIDE factory in Taiwan to get an inside look at the process and reflects on the business case for using cast parts in his small framebuilding operation.
