Just one month after news outlets announced that Tom Hardy (Venom, The Dark Knight Rises) would not be returning to MobLand season 3, citing behind-the-scenes drama, Deadline has reported Hardy will now be returning.

It was widely reported that Hardy would not be reprising his role as Harry Da Souza due to friction between him and the series’ writer, executive producer and showrunner Jez Butterworth. Another source told The Hollywood Reporter that Hardy kept his co-stars Helen Mirren (1923, Prime Suspect) and Pierce Brosnan (James Bond, Mamma Mia) waiting, frequently turning up late to set. However, Mirren has recently come out in support of Hardy on social media, seemingly disputing these claims.

Sources told Deadline that Hardy, Butterworth and series executive producer David Glasser recently met in London, where they came to an understanding about how to move forward. MobLand executive producer Guy Ritchie was also reportedly involved in these conversations, resulting in Hardy returning to the series full-time.

Though it hasn’t officially been renewed, MobLand is expected to get an order for a third season. Deadline previously reported that a writers’ room for Season 3 had opened ahead of the Season 2 premiere. The new season is said to focus on Hardy, Mirren and Brosnan’s characters, Harry, Maeve and Conrad.

Hardy is believed to have signed a three-year contract, so his return would be relatively straightforward. When the behind-the-scenes drama came to light last month, production on Season 2 had been completed except for reshoots. The cast also includes Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Lisa Dwan and Emily Barber.

The crime drama was renewed for a second season last year after season 1 premiered on Paramount+ on March 30th 2025, reaching 2.2 million viewers.

MobLand is now streaming on Paramount+.
