A tense rescue in Texas ended with a young woman being saved after she spent days trapped in a steep ravine.

The search began around 5:25 p.m. local time on June 28, when a young man heard faint cries for help coming from a wooded area behind a nearby high school.

After following the sounds, he discovered the woman stuck in the ravine, where she was trapped in deep mud and sewage and had apparently been there for several days.

The Dallas Police Department and Dallas Fire-Rescue quickly launched a coordinated response. First responders worked in 104-degree heat and made their way across roughly a quarter-mile of dangerous terrain to reach her.

Crews eventually pulled the woman from the muck and transported her to a local hospital. She was treated for severe dehydration, extended sun exposure and other injuries.

Authorities have not said how the woman became trapped in the ravine.

In a statement Monday, the Dallas Police Department commended the joint effort, praising the responders involved in the rescue.

“The well-being of the Dallas community is not something that’s handled by a single agency,” the Dallas Police Department wrote in an X post. “It takes a collaborative effort from multiple teams and organizations working side-by-side to ensure every person’s safety.”

The department extended its sincere thanks to the officers, firefighters and paramedics whose “swift action and joint effort saved a young woman who was in desperate need of help.”
