Only July 1st, 2025, accomplished French ultra-distance cyclist Sofiane Sehili will depart on a two-month journey in an attempt to beat Jonas Deichmann’s 64-day record for the fastest crossing of Eurasia by bicycle. The seed for the undertaking was planted back in 2017 when Sofiane rode more than 16,000 kilometers (10,000 miles) between Paris, France, and Fujian, China. It remains his longest trip to date, and he cycled that distance in a blazing-fast three months.

Introducing the trip, Sofiane wrote, “This summer, I will set off from Cabo da Roca in Portugal to make my way to the other side of the world, the Russian city of Vladivostok, on the shore of the Pacific Ocean. I haven’t been this excited about a project in a while.” His planned route, which is tentative based on the current conflict between Israel and Iran, will take him across 15 countries, including the high point of Kulma Pass in Tajikistan, at 4,362 meters (14,311 feet). In the event that he needs to detour around Iran, his backup route would see him travel north of the Caspian Sea, then through Kazakhstan all the way to China.

Sofiane will ride a Bombtrack Hook Ti with a Shimano GRX Di2 2×12 drivetrain, Hunt Limitless 40 wheels, and Rene Herse Corkscrew Ridge tires. To the extent it’s possible, he’ll document and share his adventure as he goes. His distinctive blend of humor, frankness, and insight has grown a devoted following from dot-watchers around the world, and we’ll be tuning in for his updates from the road come July. Best of luck with the new endeavor, Sofiane!
