The inflows into mutual funds through systematic investment plan touched yet another high of ₹32,490 crore last month against ₹32,297 crore logged in August even as the free fall in equity markets continued unabated on global headwinds.

The overall equity inflows touched 5-month high at ₹38,306 crore (₹29,328 crore) as the investors pumped-in more money to average out their investments, according to the Association of Mutual Funds in India data released on Monday.

Interestingly, small-cap funds received the highest inflow of ₹9,039 crore while mid-cap attracted ₹7,835 crore.

Overall, asset under management of the industry dipped 5 per cent to ₹82.64 lakh crore against ₹87.08 lakh crore in August due to mark-to-market loss and outflow of ₹1.83 lakh crore from debt funds.

Venkat Chalasani, CEO, AMFI said the overall inflows into mutual funds despite the weak markets reflects investors confidence in the industry and economic growth prospects of the country.

The government has already clarified there will be no charges on SIP registered through UPI even as the industry has made representation to exempt charges on lumpsum investment made through UPI, said Chalasani.

Manish Mehta, Chief Business Officer, SBI Mutual Fund said investors seemed to have taken market drawdowns as an opportunity to add to their investments and average their acquisition costs.

Overall, industry AUM numbers were negative since institutional investors redeemed due to advance tax and quarter-end compliance, he added.

A Balasubramanian, MD & CEO, Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC said the flows reflect the importance of different investment approaches, with active equity funds attracting highest net inflows and equity ETFs witnessing investment of ₹9,960 crore besides strong inflows in Gold ETFs which reflects investors interest in gold as a portfolio diversifier amid market uncertainties.

Wealth creation is a long-term journey, and investors should remain focused on disciplined investing and appropriate asset allocation, he added.

Saugata Chatterjee President & Deputy CEO , Nippon India Mutual Fund said the return of positive inflows into large-cap funds is particularly encouraging, as valuations have become relatively attractive even as investors are increasingly diversifying their equity allocations across market capitalisations.

Sustained inflows into small- and mid-cap funds, even amid market volatility, reflect continued investor confidence and participation in Bharat’s long-term economic growth story, he added.

Gaurav Goyal Chief Business Officer, Canara Robeco Asset Management Company said the cumulative inflow into three scheme of small, mid and flexi cap categories alone accounted for 62 per cent of the active equity net flows.

The steady inflows through SIP shows investors are increasingly staying invested through market cycles and are focused on long term wealth creation, he added.

Varun Gupta, CEO of Groww MF said passive products added another dimension, with Equity ETFs recording inflows of ₹9,960 crore and Gold ETFs ₹4,451 crore, both well above August levels.
