MCX and NISM sign MoU to establish Centre for Commodity Markets
Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd. (MCX) and the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Global Commodity Conclave 2026 to establish the MCX-NISM Centre for Commodity Markets, a dedicated platform focused on strengthening professional capability, research and responsible participation in India’s commodity markets.
Housed at NISM, it will combine MCX’s industry and market expertise with NISM’s academic infrastructure and research capabilities. As India’s commodity markets become more sophisticated and globally integrated, the initiative fulfils a need for specialised skills, research, and market awareness.
The core focus areas include capacity building and professional development, applied research, investor awareness, and academic engagement. Its programmes will be helpful for market participants, corporates, investors and the wider academic community. It will emphasise practical knowledge and informed participation.
The key objective is to sharpen the understanding of commodity derivatives and their role in managing market risks. The training programmes will cover multiple issues, including hedging, corporate risk management, ethical conduct, suitability, compliance and good market practices.
It will also conduct research and draft policy and white papers. A slew of faculty development programmes, doctoral fellowships, visiting scholar initiatives, and academic symposia will help build a sustained talent pipeline.

NISM’s mandate is centred on capacity building for the securities markets. As commodity trading grows more intricate, with new products, wider market linkages, and a regulatory framework that continues to evolve, the case for dedicated research only grows stronger. NISM-MCX Centre for Commodity Markets is a direct expression of that commitment, built to strengthen the knowledge base on which this market depends. NISM welcomes the Multi Commodity Exchange of India as a partner in this initiative and looks forward to the depth its market expertise will bring to our research and capacity building. Quote from Sundeep Mohindru, Founder & Promoter, M1xchange on New amendments to MSMEs bills by M1xchange
“The passage of the MSME Development (Amendment) Bill marks an important step towards strengthening the payment infrastructure for India’s MSMEs. The move to mandate TReDS for CPSEs can significantly improve payment predictability for small businesses, while giving them access to timely, collateral-free working capital against approved invoices. With TReDS already witnessing substantial growth in invoice discounting, bringing more transactions onto the platform can deepen adoption and make timely payments a more embedded part of the MSME ecosystem. The focus on faster dispute resolution and stronger recovery mechanisms further complements this by addressing delayed payments from both the financing and enforcement sides.”

Gold, silver retain bullish bias as Fed uncertainty and geopolitical risks support prices
Renisha Chainani, Chief Research officer at Augmont, writes - Gold and Silver Hold Bullish Bias Amid Fed Rate Ambiguity and Geopolitical Risk
· Demand and Supply – Gold and silver are carrying forward last week’s uptrend, helped by fewer bets on the Federal Reserve tightening policy next month, as investors wait for key U.S. inflation data that could reshape expectations around the Fed’s path.
· Geopolitical Tensions – The U.S. and Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels reported separate shipping attacks on Tuesday, while hopes of ending the Iran war seemed to fade further, as Tehran said the Strait of Hormuz would stay shut unless Washington agrees to its terms.
· Macro-Economic Signals – As investors wait for U.S. inflation data for clues on the Fed’s policy direction, a stronger reading could support a tighter stance and add more pressure on gold, while a softer number could bring some relief. Traders are currently pricing in a 50% chance of a hike in September, down from 60% before the jobs report.
Gold’s break above $4200. Gold is holding support at its uptrend line through August. Near-term support sits at $4350 (~₹153,500). Silver’s move past $63.

U-P, TP cut to Rs 772
Announced immediate resignation of its CEO, Mr. Sudhir Sitapati & appointed Aasif Malbari (previous CFO) as CEO with immediate effect.
Management indicated the strategic roadmap laid out at the May 2026 Investor Day remains intact, with the focus now squarely on improving execution and speed
Key challenge remains driving better outcomes in GCPL’s two largest categories: personal wash (where GCPL has negligible share in growth categories) and HI (where the new formulation has not yielded the expected results)

Buy, TP Rs 1350
Expect GCPL’s stock to react negatively in near-term following sudden resignation of Sudhir Sitapati as MD & CEO.
Management has moved quickly to ensure continuity by appointing former CFO Aasif Malbari as MD & CEO, reiterating FY27 guidance and emphasizing that strategic direction remains unchanged
Believe co ‘s repeated references to ‘candor’ and ‘pace’ likely point to a desire for greater transparency, sharper accountability, and faster execution
Commentary also suggests promoter expectations were higher in certain areas, particularly liquid vaporizers in India
While leadership change creates a near-term sentiment overhang, do not see evidence of a strategic reset.
Rather, focus appears to be on strengthening execution within the existing strategy
Will monitor leadership appointments (separate heads for India and international), improvement in LVs, and whether renewed emphasis on execution translates into stronger market share gains and earnings delivery.

SEBI’s new consultation paper proposes to admit FPIs into non-agri commodity index derivatives &, more materially, into physically-settled non-agri contracts, deepest structural widening of the foreign investor base in Indian exchange traded commodity derivatives (ETCDs) since FPIs were first onboarded in 2022
Read this as a structural volume catalyst for MCX, with bullion as the primary beneficiary
Build incremental FPI flow into volumes, taking FY28/29E Futures ADTV up 9.1%/14.0% & FY28E/29E options ADPTV up 4.5%/10.0%.
Jefferies on MCX
Buy, TP Rs 3600
SEBI paper has two proposals allowing FPI participation in:
(1) non-ag index derivatives and
(2) non-cash/non-ag commodity F&O.
Currently, FPI participation in cash settled commodity F&O is 5-6%.
Similar participation in non-cash/non-ag contracts could add 3% to MCX’s PAT
Deepening of commodity index options (Bulldex/Metldex), which currently has no volumes could add 10% to PAT, should they become 10% of monthly equity ADTO in 3 yrs
Morgan Stanley on MCX
SEBI proposes FPI participation in non-cash settled non-agri commodity derivatives
Since FPIs cannot take delivery, it has proposed a T-3 square off or roll over of positions
Proposal also includes an extension of FPI participation to cash settled non-agri index contracts, whose underlying contracts are also non-cash settled
FPIs contributed to ~4% of total notional turnover in FY26 and ~2% in Q1FY27, per SEBI data
Share from FPIs is likely to be higher when based on cash-settled contracts notional turnover, where FPIs are currently allowed to participate

CITI on Siemens
Neutral, TP Rs 3875
JuneQ26 orders were robust at Rs63bn, up 16.5%, primarily driven by smart infra segment (exposed to electrification, datacentre linked demand) & 14% ahead of our estimate
However, margins were weaker than expected due to greater than expected impact of commodity inflation and forex volatility, which had hurt previous quarter margins as well.
Revenue at Rs47bn grew 15%YoY & was in line; however recurring EBITDA at 3.9bn fell 24%YoY and was 17%/23% below Citi/Visible Alpha.
Recurring PAT at Rs3bn fell 28%YoY and was 19%/25% below Citie/VAe.
Reported PAT at Rs3.4bn fell 19%YoY.
Overall, Siemens’ JuneQ results were similar to peer ABB India, where orders were ahead, but profitability weak

Jpmorgan on Siemens
Target ₹3334
Recommendation: Underweight
Margin Pain Offset By Decent Order Inflows
Demand conditions were good in 1QFY27 as shown by healthy order inflows
Sequential improvement in Digital Industries EBIT margin was positive
Continuing EBITDA margin compression is a key negative from the results
Kotak Inst Eqt on Siemens
Sell, TP Rs 3150
Reported a sharp 18% miss in 1QFY27 EBITDA adjusted for one-off support, down 25% yoy
Execution was steady overall although weak in segments with strong ordering in recent quarters
Gross margin improvement qoq matters less, as related hedging losses are likely reflected in higher other expenses.
Solid order inflows at 1.3X sales appear more broad-based across businesses vs that for its key peer, partly reflective of portfolio mix of Siemens India
Cut estimates by 5%/1%/0% for FY2027/28/29

1Q standalone PAT beat estimate by 3% driven by in-line NII and lower Opex and credit costs
Quarter was a trend reversal from what we have seen the past 3-4 quarters where growth came at the cost of margins.
In 1QFY27, MGFL was able to grow its gold loan book 12% QoQ and also improved loan yields 60bps to 17.7%.
Gold loan growth was driven roughly half by tonnage and half by higher loan-to-value (LTV).
Given an LTV of 66%, we do not see much further scope for it to increase.
Hence, gold loan growth hereon will be largely tonnage-driven as gold prices have been flattish.
In microfinance business, loan growth resumed, but profitability remains low.
In vehicle finance, the book continues to run down while the GNPL ratio remains elevated

Darshan Desai, CEO, Aspect Bullion & Refinery
“Gold and silver continue to remain firmly supported, reflecting strong investor confidence in precious metals. The recent movement in gold highlights the continued role of bullion as a preferred store of value, particularly amid evolving global economic conditions and uncertainty. Silver, meanwhile, has gained additional momentum from strong investment interest and sustained industrial demand.
From the bullion industry’s perspective, we are seeing healthy interest in physical gold and silver, despite prices remaining at elevated levels. While some near-term consolidation and profit-booking cannot be ruled out following the sharp rally, the underlying fundamentals remain supportive. We expect demand for bullion to remain resilient as investors continue to look at gold and silver for wealth preservation, portfolio diversification and long-term value.”

Pre Market Quote by Vikram Kasat, Head, Advisory, PL Capital
Markets took five on Tuesday, with all three major indexes falling ahead of tomorrow’s inflation report.
Dow Jones fell 184 points, S&P 500 was down 0.3%. Nasdaq fell 0.6%.
The yield on the 2-year Treasury note dipped to 4.22%. The 10-year yield was down to 4.68%.
The dog days of summer are here, characterized by thin volume, narrow index moves, and a lighter earnings flow, while market participants cast a wary eye on Treasury yields that keep tightening the vise
Investors are waiting for tomorrow’s consumer price index report. Economists are expecting to see that prices rose by 0.1% in July from June. If the numbers come in as expected, without signs of a big inflation bump, it could help alleviate fears that the Federal Reserve has to increase interest rates sooner rather than later.
Of course, there’s always a risk that inflation surprises to the upside—particularly because oil prices spiked again toward the end of July as hostilities resumed between the U.S. and Iran. Brent crude oscillated around the $90 a barrel mark on Tuesday amid ongoing uncertainty over when the Strait of Hormuz would reopen. Traffic through the strait remains weak—over the weekend, confirmed crossings fell from 15 on Friday to 11 on Saturday and just six on Sunday
Negotiations got a bit more complicated on Monday. Now that both the U.S. and Iran are demanding reparations from each other to end the conflict, dashing any remaining hopes of a quick resolution.

Bitcoin holds near $64,000 as investors await US inflation data
Market analysis by Vikram Subburaj, CEO, Giottus.com
August 12, 2026
Bitcoin traded near $63,700-$63,800 on Wednesday morning and was broadly flat, as investors avoided large positions ahead of the July US inflation report. Immediate support lies around $63,000-$63,200, followed by $62,500. Resistance is visible near $64,400-$64,500, with the $65,000-$66,000 region remaining the stronger ceiling for the current recovery.
On-chain and market-structure indicators have improved without confirming a broader expansion.Spot taker buying has accelerated, and participation in perpetual futures has strengthened. Meanwhile, funding rates and open interest remain moderate. Options traders are also paying less for downside protection. However, overall exchange turnover and network activity remain subdued. This suggests that the recovery is still transitional rather than conviction-led.
Institutional demand improved significantly during the first week of August. US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $865.3 million across five consecutive sessions from August 3-7. That streak reversed with a $144.6 million outflow on August 10. August 11 showed a further preliminary $42.4 million withdrawal, with BlackRock’s IBIT figure yet to be reported. Completed flows from August 3 through August 10 nevertheless remain positive by about $720.7 million.
Large-cap altcoins were mostly positive. Ethereum gained 0.3% to $1,884, while BNB led with a 3% rise to $618. XRP advanced 0.8% to $1.02, Solana gained 0.6% to $76.46, and TRON rose 1.1% to $0.334. The stronger BNB move contrasts with relatively modest gains elsewhere, indicating selective rather than broad altcoin participation.
The July US CPI release later today is the key macro catalyst. Economists expect headline inflation of 3.4% and core inflation of 2.5%. Fed futures currently imply a 52% probability of no change in September versus 48% for a quarter-point hike. Brent crude near $89.60 remains an additional inflation risk.
Our advice: Investors should avoid chasing short-term moves before the inflation release. Staggered accumulation, limited leverage and disciplined position sizing remain preferable until Bitcoin clears $64,500-$66,000 with sustained ETF and spot demand.

Tamilnadu Petroproducts Q1 FY27 Results | PAT up 134% YoY, PBT up 129%
Key highlights:
* PAT increased 134% YoY to ₹77.82 crore from ₹33.22 crore in Q1 FY26.
* PBT increased 129% YoY to ₹103.65 crore from ₹45.20 crore.
* EBITDAincreased 138% YoY to ₹124.84 crore from ₹52.45 crore.
* Revenue increased 68% YoY to ₹784.17 crore from ₹468.27 crore.
* The strong performance was supported by higher demand, improved capacity utilisation and cost-led operational efficiencies.
* TPL had undertaken a planned shutdown during Q4 FY26 for its expansion project; hence, Q4 FY26 numbers are not comparable with Q1 FY27.
Leadership comment:
Mr. Ashwin Muthiah, Vice Chairman – TPL and Founder Chairman, AM International, Singapore, said the strong Q1 performance reflected the benefits of continued focus on cost-led operational efficiencies, improved capacity utilisation and the company’s ability to respond to higher customer demand.
He added that despite the evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East and increased input costs, lower import pressures supported the quarter’s overall performance. The company remains focused on strengthening its competitiveness while developing carbon-neutral products and solutions to address the evolving sustainability needs of customers.

MNCL Research: Triveni Turbine earnings call KTAs - Growth Intact, Margins Under Pressure
CMP: Rs 597; TP: Rs 691 (UR); Rating: Accumulate (UR)
~ Q1FY27 Performance: Revenue Growth, Margin Pressure
Revenue stood at Rs 4.43bn, +19.2% YoY, with domestic sales at Rs 2.40bn (+27.4% YoY) and exports at Rs 2.03bn (+10.8% YoY); export mix was 48.8%. EBITDA stood at Rs 513mn, margin at 11.6% vs 19.8% in Q1FY26, while PAT stood at Rs 511mn. Margin pressure reflected adverse H1FY26 order mix, strategic-order phasing and higher domestic execution.
~FY27 Outlook: Back-Ended Growth
Management remains confident of FY27 top-line and bottom-line growth, with performance expected to be back-ended toward H2. Geopolitical uncertainty may continue to drive quarterly volatility.
~Order Booking: Export & Aftermarket Led
Q1FY27 order booking grew 6.1% YoY to Rs 5.68bn, led by exports and aftermarket, both up 53% YoY, while domestic and product order booking declined 35% and 12% YoY, respectively.
~Order Book: Strong Visibility
Closing order book stood at Rs 21.8bn, +5.1% YoY, with exports at 57% and the balance 43% domestic. Aftermarket orders stood at Rs 6.24bn, contributing 29% of the order book, led by geothermal, utility and refurbishment opportunities.
~Margins: H2 Recovery Expected
Export dispatches were deferred as freight rates increased 3–4x, pushing deliveries to Q2/Q3. The NTPC CO2 energy storage project was executed at negligible/near-zero margins for technology validation. Management expects improvement in H1FY27 and reiterated PBT margin goal of >20% in the near term.
~Domestic Market: Softness Persists
Domestic inquiries have softened and order finalisations are taking longer, with customers adopting a wait-and-watch approach. Product inquiry gestation remains 6–12 months, while international markets, particularly the US and Southeast Asia, remain stronger.
~US & Data Centres: Growing inquiries but conversion a monitorable
US inquiries remain healthy, though conversion takes >12 months. Data-centre demand is gaining traction as gas turbine lead times reach 4–5 years, driving interest in conventional combined-cycle solutions.
~ Aftermarket: Key Growth Engine
Aftermarket closing orders rose 115% YoY to Rs 6.24bn, supported by refurbishment, utility turbines, gas turbines, geothermal and biomass. US aftermarket contribution remains <10%, with the US entity targeted to break even in FY27.
New Products & CO2 BESS
Heat pumps and MVR are being developed as an integrated solution, while the ORC inquiry pipeline is increasing globally. The NTPC CO2 storage project had ~Rs 175 crore pending at Q4FY26, with ~40% of that may have got executed in Q1 and the balance due in Q2; commissioning is expected by end-Q2/early-Q3.
Our view: Short term pain persists but we remain optimistic looking beyond Q2. We will revisit our estimates and rating shortly.
