French fries demand

For spuds in their raw form, global sales for unprocessed potatoes exports by country amounted to US$6.8 billion during 2025.

Overall, the value of exported raw potatoes increased in value by an average 51.2% for all exporting countries from five years earlier in 2021 when raw potatoes shipments were valued at $4.5 billion.

Year over year, the value of exported raw potatoes fell by -5.4% compared to $7.17 billion starting from 2024.

Beyond raw potatoes, the value of worldwide shipments for prepared or preserved potatoes including frozen French fries represents an additional $17.45 billion in international sales.

Total exports of prepared or preserved potatoes shipments including frozen French fries rose by 60.5% over the latest 5-year period.

The annual change for prepared or preserved potatoes including frozen French fries flatlined via a 0.6% rise in total value from $17.35 billion for 2024.

For research purposes, the 4-digit Harmonized Tariff System code prefix for raw potatoes is 0701. The 6-digit prefix for frozen prepared or preserved potatoes including French fries is 200410 while 200520 is the 6-digit prefix for unfrozen potatoes prepared or preserved with vinegar or acetic acid.

 
By value, the listed 15 countries shipped 89.6% of raw potatoes exported worldwide in 2025.

Among the above countries, the fastest-growing raw potatoes exporters since 2024 were: Kenya (up 1,113%), mainland China (up 56.4%), Pakistan (up 34%) and Egypt (up 27.4%).

Those countries that posted declines in their exported raw potatoes sales were led by: Italy (down -33.3% from 2024), Spain (down -29.7%), India (down -24.5%), United Kingdom (down -21.8%) and Belgium (down -14.8%).

Frozen prepared or preserved potatoes including French fries amounted to $17.5 billion in export sales for 2025 (thus equaling 77.6% of the overall prepared or preserved total), while international shipments of unfrozen prepared or preserved potatoes were worth another $3.9 billion (representing 22.4% up from 21.3% for the prior year).

Below are the 15 countries that exported the highest dollar value worth of prepared or preserved potatoes during 2025, including both frozen and unfrozen goods.

 
By value, the listed 15 countries shipped 92.2% of all prepared or preserved spuds in 2025, encompassing both frozen and unfrozen products.

Among the above countries, the fastest-growing frozen prepared or preserved potatoes exporters from 2024 to 2025 were: mainland China (up 53.1%), India (up 35.6%), Egypt (up 18.1%) and France (up 17.9%).

Those countries that posted declines in their exported frozen prepared/preserved potatoes sales were led by: Türkiye (down -19.5%), United Kingdom (down -10%), Canada (down -7.8%), United States of America (down -5.4%) and Belgium (down -4.1%).
