A Florida golfer has been released on bond after authorities accused him of confronting and assaulting a 15-year-old boy during a dispute over slow play on a golf course.
Rhett Drummond, 50, was arrested Aug. 22 on a child abuse charge and later posted a $500 cash bond. An arrest affidavit cited by local NBC affiliate WFLA says the incident unfolded that morning at Lansbrook Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida, where Drummond allegedly got into an argument with an unidentified 15-year-old about the teen’s pace of play.

Investigators said the confrontation initially appeared to cool off after both Drummond and the teenager were described as “being disrespectful toward each other.” The two then separated on different areas of the course, but police allege Drummond later drove his golf cart into the cart being operated by the teen.
Drummond was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on a third-degree child abuse charge. He posted bond Monday and made a court appearance that same day. Online court records did not list his next scheduled hearing.
