In a statement in the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi said the war in West Asia is a cause of concern, and India wants peace in the region through dialogue and diplomacy.

The government has called an all-party meeting on the West Asia crisis on Wednesday (March 25, 2026), sources said. This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to Parliament on the West Asia situation.

Meanwhile, Mr. Modi said the government is trying to procure gas and crude oil from all available sources, and efforts will continue in the coming days as the war in West Asia has created a serious energy crisis globally.

The Union government’s Bill to remove transgender people’s right to a self-perceived gender identity and redefine a “transgender person” has been listed for consideration and passing in Lok Sabha on Tuesday (March 24, 2026). The Bill introduced earlier this month to amend the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, proposes amendments in relation to identifying transgender individuals.

The Union government is likely to amend the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act in the ongoing session. One of the key changes proposed is the appointment of a “designated authority” to take over, manage or dispose of assets created out of foreign funds by an NGO or association, which has had its FCRA registration suspended, cancelled, or not renewed.

    The government has called an all-party meeting on the West Asia crisis on Wednesday (March 25, 2026), sources said.

    This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to Parliament on the West Asia situation.

    The Prime Minister on Monday (March 23, 2026) said the difficult global conditions caused by the West Asia conflict are likely to persist for a long time and called upon the nation to remain prepared and united, just as it had stood together during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    PM Modi on LPG crisis, fuel supply

    PM Modi said that families of deceased Indians in the Gulf are being assisted by the government. He said that the government is taking “all possible measures” to ensure LPG and fuel supply, and its resilience if the war continues for longer. India holds 53 lakh metric tonnes of strategic petroleum reserves, he said. 

    The government, to replace LPG, has been promoting PNG, he said. “There has been large-scale efforts to increase domestic LPG production,” PM Modi said, adding that this is one of the efforts to make India self reliant.

    Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, TDP, Andhra Pradesh, said that the economy has thrived in the past 5 years despite the challenges. He said that India is one of the fastest growing economies with 7% GST growth.

    However, he said that some bottlenecks in the taxation system needs to be addressed. He proposed three solutions to improve tax compliance and process. 

    “Trust the taxpayer. Create an atmosphere in which the taxpayers can come and declare their assets,” he said. 

    Offering criticisms for the Budget, he said that utilisation of the funds matters more than budgetary allocations. He also asked the Finance Ministry to prepone the AI target to 2 years -- with 1 million GPUs by 2028 -- to ensure balance of payments and self reliance.

    He said that although the semiconductor industry is allocated funds, it is not being spent. He said that the semiconductor industry could potentially prevent ‘brain drain’ by bringing back professionals to the country.

    Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday (March 24, 2026) announced that the resignation of MP from Assam Pradyut Bordoloi, who quit the Congress and joined the BJP, has been accepted.

    Mr. Bordoloi, who was elected to the Lok Sabha from Nagaon for two consecutive terms on Congress ticket, resigned from the opposition party on March 17 and subsequently joined the BJP.
