A 28-year-old Paris man has been arrested in relation to a suspicious incident involving a teenage girl on Friday in Brantford.

Brantford Police Service appealed to the public for help to identify a suspect after the teen was walking in the Brock Street and Colborne Street East area at about 10 a.m. on June 5.

Police said Monday an unknown man approached the teen, grabbed her shoulder, and engaged her in conversation.
The teen didn’t get into the vehicle, left the area safely, and subsequently reported the occurrence to police.
On Saturday, June 6 the suspect was arrested and charged with one count of assault.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to speak with children and youth about personal safety and situational awareness.
Community members should remain alert to their surroundings, trust their instincts when a situation feels uncomfortable, and move to a safe location or seek assistance if approached by an unknown person in a manner that causes concern, police say.
Young people are encouraged to avoid approaching or entering a stranger’s vehicle, maintain awareness of their surroundings when walking alone, and travel with friends when possible.
As well, young people should report suspicious interactions to a trusted adult and police as soon as possible.
