A suspected drug mule was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday.
A Dutch national has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after police discovered 60kg of khat concealed in his luggage.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the man was intercepted on Sunday while preparing to board a flight to London.
During an inspection of his baggage, police uncovered the drugs hidden inside his luggage, leading to his immediate arrest, Mathe said.
The latest bust comes less than 24 hours after a Brazilian national was found in possession of cocaine valued at an estimated R8.7 million.
Police said the multiple blocks of cocaine had been wrapped and concealed inside the person’s luggage.

Mathe said the back-to-back arrests highlighted heightened vigilance and coordinated operations between the South African Police Service (SAPS), Airports Company South Africa, the Border Management Authority and South African Revenue Service customs officials.
“SAPS will continue to intensify its efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and ensure that those involved face the full might of the law,” Mathe said.
The man is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court later this week on charges related to drug trafficking.
