  • Black Coffee has pleaded online for trolls to stop involving his children in social media criticism.
  • The plea followed backlash over his extravagant 50th birthday celebrations in Cape Town.
  • He previously made a similar request after his 2025 divorce from Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa.

Grammy‑winning DJ and producer Black Coffee has once again appealed to social media users to stop dragging his children into online debates.

This time, the request was made after criticism of his recent 50th birthday celebrations spilt over into comments about his family.

In a heartfelt post on X, Black Coffee made his request clear: People can criticise him all they want, but his children are off limits.

“Troll me, demonise me all you want until maybe you feel better about yourself, but please, please leave my kids out of it,” he wrote, emphasising that his children should not be a target for speculation or commentary.

From celebration to commentary

The plea came after the internationally celebrated DJ marked his 50th birthday with a lavish, three‑day series of events in Cape Town. The celebrations began with an intimate boat cruise and dinner with close friends and family, followed by a glamorous gala attended by local and international celebrities.

The final day culminated in Casa Coffee, a daytime event featuring performances by DJ Tira, DJ Maphorisa, DJ Bubbles and Black Coffee himself.

While many praised the festivities, some social media users criticised its scale and extravagance – and eventually, the conversation shifted to his personal life.

Photos shared by guests began circulating online, and what started as admiration quickly turned to commentary on the decor, the guest list and, disturbingly, his five children – three more than what many fans previously thought he had.

A repeating pattern

This isn’t the first time Black Coffee has had to defend his family against online chatter publicly.

In 2025, after his long‑running separation and eventual divorce from actor Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa was finalised, the DJ made a similar appeal. The former couple’s split was widely discussed online, with some users sharing images of their children amid the speculation. At the time, he wrote:

“I understand that you people believe everything you read, and that’s fine. As a father, I have one request. Please stop posting my children on your socials.”

The social media divide

Despite his plea, reactions to the musician’s latest statement have been mixed. Some social users defended him, while others suggested that critics weren’t targeting his children at all but rather him. Many argued that he put his children in this position.

One commenter wrote, “You put them in this position, your choices, your actions. Blame yourself.”

Why public families deserve privacy

There’s a real and growing conversation about consent, privacy and parenting in the digital age – especially when children of public figures are involved.

Experts in parenting and digital wellbeing often emphasise that children, even those with famous parents, have a right to privacy.

Photos, comments and speculation about them online can impact their sense of safety and identity – long before they’re old enough to fully understand what’s being said.
