Motorists heading in and out of Randburg are urged to avoid Beyers Naudé Drive near West Park Cemetery, where a tree has fallen across the roadway, coming to rest on a car.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla said there were no passengers in the vehicle, and the driver sustained no injuries.

He said JMPD officers were waiting for Johannesburg City Parks to assist with the removal of the tree and the clearing of the debris.

“Due to the size of the tree, the affected section of Beyers Naudé Drive remains closed to traffic,” he said.

“This closure is expected to cause significant delays in the Randburg area.”

He urged motorists to use alternative routes such as Judith Road, Preller Drive, or Tesselar Terrace to navigate around the obstruction.

Fihla also cautioned motorists to stay alert for emergency and maintenance vehicles operating in the area.

“We will provide further updates once the roadway has been cleared and is safe for public use,” he said.

The area has been experiencing heavy rainfall, with the South African Weather Services forecasting more rain for Saturday.
