 Delhi high court notifies special fast-track court following PM Narendra Modi's announcement

The notification came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Centre had decided to establish fast-track courts to ensure "swift and stringent punishment" for those involved in examination paper leaks.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Thursday designated a special fast-track court to exclusively try offences related to paper leaks and other unfair means in public examinations.In a notification, the high court said the court of judicial officer Anu Grover Baliga at the Rouse Avenue Court Complex will function as a Specially Designated Fast Track Court to hear cases under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, along with connected offences, with immediate effect.

Baliga, who was serving as the judge in charge of the Mediation Centre at Tis Hazari Courts, has been transferred to the Rouse Avenue Courts as special judge for the purpose.The notification came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Centre had decided to establish fast-track courts to ensure "swift and stringent punishment" for those involved in examination paper leaks.In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the welfare and future of the country's youth remained the government's top priority and that those attempting to jeopardise students' future "will not be spared".

He also said the government had directed the concerned authorities to take all necessary steps to safeguard students' interests.The announcement comes amid continuing protests over the alleged NEET paper leak, with demonstrators demanding accountability for examination irregularities and reforms in the education system.(With agency inputs)
