Rains lashed several parts of Mumbai for the second consecutive day on Monday (June 22, 2026), bringing much-needed relief from the prevailing heat and humidity across the city. Moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunder were reported from multiple locations during the morning hours, while overcast skies and cool winds made for a pleasant start to the day.

According to civic officials, some areas recorded intense rainfall within a short span, though no major incidents of waterlogging or disruption to public transport services were reported. The showers, however, affected visibility and slowed traffic movement at a few locations.

The southwest monsoon, which typically reaches Mumbai around June 10, has been delayed this year after its advance stalled due to unfavourable weather conditions. The latest spell of rain has renewed hopes of further monsoon progress along the west coast.

No significant waterlogging or other rain-related incidents were reported, while public transport services continued to operate normally, officials said.

    Himachal Pradesh | Snowfall disrupts traffic in Chamba

    “Snowfall in Himachal’s Chamba district disrupted traffic on the Dalhousie-Lakkarmandi-Khajjiar route for almost two hours on Monday (June 22, 2026),” officials said.

    Snowfall took everyone by surprise, with several tourist vehicles stuck in a jam. However, tourists visiting Dalhousie were happy to see snow in June. The Public Works Department (PWD) Dalhousie Division promptly deployed earth movers to restore traffic.

    Meanwhile, light to moderate rains lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh in the past 24 hours since Sunday evening (June 21, 2026), with Shimla, Sundernagar, Kangra, Jot and Murari Devi hit by thunderstorms and lightning.

    Jot received 22.8 mm of rain followed by Slaper 14.3 mm, Dhaulakuan 9 mm, Bharmaur 5 mm, Sundernagar 3.6 mm, Sangla 3.2 mm, and Manali and Shimla 3 mm each.

    The Shimla Met office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) likely at isolated places in the State for the next four days until Friday (June 26, 2026). - PTI

    India | IMD warns of extreme rainfall in Northeast; severe heat wave in parts of central India

    The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely to continue over northeast India till June 25 and over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till June 22. The IMD further warned that heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are likely to prevail over Vidarbha, East Madhya Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh for the next four to five days.

    Heat wave conditions are also expected over Chhattisgarh for the next three days, Telangana for the next two days, and over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. 

    According to IMD forecast, isolated to scattered rainfall over Konkan and Goa on June 22, with rainfall activity expected to intensify to fairly widespread and widespread rainfall over the region between June 23 and June 27. The Weather Department also predicted isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, over Konkan and Goa and Marathwada during June 22-25, while isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa during June 22-27. - ANI

    Maharashtra | Monsoon onset in Mumbai expected soon

    The monsoon onset in Mumbai is expected later on Monday (June 22, 2026) or on Tuesday (June 23, 2026). The IMD will announce the monsoon only when all parameters for monsoon onset are met. In its latest weather bulletin, the IMD forecast conditions are favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into some more parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar, as well as parts of Chhattisgarh, around June 23. - ANI

    Maharashtra | IMD issues Orange alert for Mumbai

    The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for Mumbai. The forecast indicates thunderstorms, lightning, and rainfall over the next three hours. The onset of the southwest monsoon over the city is expected later on Monday or Tuesday (June 22 or 23, 2026).

    The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) shared the nowcast warning from the IMD on Monday. The warning said winds at 30-40 kmph and spells of rainfall are expected at some locations in Mumbai. The BMC has advised residents to take precautions during thunderstorms and rain.

    Uttar Pradesh | CM Yogi Adityanath chairs high-level review meeting

    Chairing a high-level review meeting on weather conditions, monsoon progress, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath said every resident of the State should be connected with efforts related to water harvesting and conservation.

    According to the information shared during the meeting, the India Meteorological Department’s long-range forecast indicates that Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive below-normal rainfall during the southwest monsoon season of 2026.

    Both eastern and western parts of the State are expected to witness deficient rainfall between June and September, while temperatures are also likely to remain above normal during June.

    Mr. Adityanath directed the Irrigation Department, Panchayati Raj, groundwater, Namami Gange, Revenue and Agriculture Departments to prepare an integrated action plan.

    He said water conservation initiatives should not remain confined to departmental programmes and must involve public participation. He also instructed officials to prevent dirty water from flowing into ponds and other water bodies and emphasised the conservation, cleanliness and regular maintenance of Amrit Sarovars. - PTI

    Delhi | Rain, thunderstorms likely

    Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 27.3 degrees Celsius on Monday (June 22, 2026), with the weather office predicting rain and thunderstorms.

    Safdarjung, the city’s base station, recorded 27.3 degrees Celsius, 0.7 notches below the season’s average, according to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

    Among the city’s weather stations, Palam recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 24.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Ridge at 24.6 degrees Celsius and Ayanagar at 25.3 degrees Celsius. Lodhi Road logged a minimum temperature of 26.6 degrees Celsius.

    No rainfall was recorded in any of the major weather stations in Delhi till 8.30 a.m. on Monday, according to the IMD data.

    Delhi’s air quality was recorded in the ‘poor’ category, with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) being clocked at 206, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

    The maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to be around 38 degrees Celsius and thunderstorms with rain are expected in parts of the city, according to the IMD. - PTI

    Uttar Pradesh | CM Yogi Adityanath directs officials to ensure no drinking water crisis arises anywhere in State

    Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday (June 21, 2026) directed officials to ensure that no drinking water crisis arises anywhere in the State and called for making water conservation a mass movement in view of weather uncertainty and the possibility of an erratic monsoon.

    Chairing a high-level review meeting on weather conditions, monsoon progress, drinking water supply and groundwater conservation, Mr. Adityanath said every resident of the State should be connected with efforts related to water harvesting and conservation.

    As per an official statement, the CM stressed that not a single drop of water should be wasted and asked officials to implement Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Catch the Rain” campaign more effectively through wider public participation.

    The Chief Minister directed departments concerned to ensure uninterrupted water supply across the State and make advance preparations to deal with the possibility of below-normal rainfall. He said citizens should not face any inconvenience due to drinking water shortages. - PTI

    Rains lash Mumbai for second day, cool breeze brings respite

    “Several parts of Mumbai received moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder on Monday morning (June 22, 2026), with some areas recording intense showers in just one hour,” civic officials said.

    Rains lashed parts of the city for the second consecutive day, bringing much-needed relief from the heat and humidity. Overcast skies and a cool breeze made the morning pleasant across the metropolis.

    On Monday morning (June 22, 2026), showers, accompanied by thunder, lashed several parts of the city, leading to reduced visibility and affecting traffic movement at some locations, officials said.

    “The island city recorded an average rainfall of 17 mm between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., the western suburbs received 10 mm of rain, and the eastern suburbs recorded no measurable precipitation during the period,” as per data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). - PTI
