Maple syrup on pancakesInternational sales for maple sweets exporters totaled US$709.9 million during 2025.
That dollar metric results from a 24.4% increase from five years earlier in 2021 when globally exported maple syrup and maple sugar were worth $570.8 million.
Year over year, worldwide exports of maple syrup and sugar accelerated by 13.9% compared to $623.3 starting from 2024.
Maple syrup is commonly poured on pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, porridge or French toast.
Maple syrup is also used as an ingredient for baked goods and as a sweetener or flavor agent for foods and drinks. Maple syrup candies and maple sugar are tasty treats.
The world’s top maple sweets exporter is Canada, accounting for 85.1% of all maple syrup and sugar exported in 2025 by value. That percentage exceeds the 83.3% for 2024.
From a continental perspective, 91% of exported sweet maple goods originated from North America’s Canada and United States. No maple syrup originated from Mexico.
Another 8.4% worth came from sources in Europe.
Tinier percentages of maple sugar products originated from Asia (0.3%), Oceania (0.2%) led by Australia and New Zealand, Africa (0.1%), then Latin America (0.05%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean.
For research purposes, the 6-digit Harmonized Tariff System code prefix is 170220. That code prefix encompasses maple syrup and maple sugar products in solid form.
Below are the 15 countries that exported the highest dollar value worth of maple sweets during 2025.

- United States: $41.6 million (5.9%)
- Denmark: $14 million (2%)
- Germany: $13.6 million (1.9%)
- France: $9.9 million (1.4%)
- Netherlands: $8 million (1.1%)
- Belgium: $3.1 million (0.4%)
- Slovenia: $2.4 million (0.3%)
- Sweden: $2.3 million (0.3%)
- United Kingdom: $2.1 million (0.3%)
- mainland China: $1.3 million (0.18%)
- Czech Republic: $944,000 (0.13%)
- Australia: $633,000 (0.09%)
- Hungary: $626,000 (0.09%)
- Spain: $579,000 (0.08%)
By value, the listed 15 countries shipped 99.3% of globally exported maple syrup and sugar in 2025.
Among the top exporters, the fastest-growing maple syrup exporters from 2024 to 2025 were: Slovenia (up 108.8%), Australia (up 63.6%), Denmark (up 43.5%) and Germany (up 39%).
Those countries that posted year-over-year declines in their exported maple syrup sales were: Spain (down -37.4%), United States of America (down -11.6%) and Sweden (down -1.1%).
The most valuable international market that buys imported maple syrup and sugar is the United States of America which consumed over half (53.5%) of maple sweets in 2025. Other top importers include Germany, United Kingdom, France and Australia.
