Sam Vanderpump is the focus of a new two-part documentary as he waits for a life-saving liver transplant

A "heartbreaking" new documentary chronicling a Made in Chelsea star's struggle with end-stage liver disease has been announced by E4.

The two-part series will track reality television personality Sam Vanderpump as he embarks on the wait for an organ transplant to save his life, accompanied by his wife and fellow television star, Alice.

Two years ago, Sam was admitted to hospital where he received a diagnosis of sepsis. He successfully battled the life-threatening infection and has since taken on the role of ambassador for the UK Sepsis Trust, where he helps to raise awareness of the warning signs.

Reflecting on his sepsis ordeal with the charity, he revealed that after an asthma attack requiring hospitalisation, he developed "back pain and flu-like symptoms" for 10 days. Whilst Christmas shopping, he began experiencing an insatiable thirst before his health deteriorated rapidly.

Just last year the star - who lives with a genetic liver and kidney condition - faced another medical blow after learning he would require a liver transplant following a diagnosis of end-stage liver disease. The forthcoming documentary will chart Sam and his wife as they balance parenthood with the urgency of surgery, reports OK!

A synopsis states: "The documentary traces Sam's health since his near-death experience through to today, as he waits for a life-saving liver transplant and navigates life as a dad-to-be."

The series continues: "The couple refuse to stop living and documentary cameras capture Sam and Alice's most intimate milestones – their wedding, the arrival of their baby boy, and the unwavering support of Sam's mum and aunt, Lisa Vanderpump, as well as their tight-knit Chelsea circle."

The pair welcomed their son, Marmaduke, on February 9 this year. The distinctive name holds a poignant family significance as it was a favourite of Sam's late father, Mark, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 59.

Whilst an exact release date for the new documentary remains under wraps, it is anticipated to debut in Spring this year. Clemency Green, Senior Commissioning Editor for Channel 4, said: "We hope this documentary sheds some light on the heartbreaking journey people often face as they wait for a donor."

She added: "It is a privilege that Sam will allow our viewers to follow his own experience with the process, as well as his and Alice's most special moments. This documentary isn't just for fans of Made in Chelsea, this is an insight into the joy and hope that can live alongside the painful realities of living life with an end-stage disease."

Made in Chelsea: Sam Vanderpump’s Story will arrive later this year on E4. An exact release date is yet to be announced.
