Two of the Champions League favourites clash tonight in a mouthwatering game at the Parc des Princes.

PSG are the two-time defending champions and flexed their muscles again last week with a scintillating first-half performance against Manchester City that paved the way for a 4-2 victory at the Etihad.

The worry for Luis Enrique is at the back. PSG have conceded in each of their last five matches across all competitions, and that’s a big concern against the most potent attack in Europe’s big five leagues.

“We want to win,” said the PSG boss who will face his former club. “In terms of the competition as a whole, it may not be that important, but it is a special fixture. These are two top clubs with a clear identity and they are both brilliant to watch, so we want to make the most of it. It will be a good sporting contest.

“It will be a tight match because both teams have so much individual quality. Playing at home makes a difference to us; we are much stronger here. We are a machine: that is what I think when i see our players press.”

In the other corner are a Barcelona side that look unstoppable right now. Saturday’s 5-2 win over Real Betis at La Cartuja made it 11 wins out of 11 in all competitions, and they come to Paris among the leaders in the Champions League standings after thrashing Feyenoord 5-1 and coming from behind to beat Galatasaray 4-1 in Istanbul.

Stats for Paris Saint Germain v Barcelona

• The teams have met 16 times in UEFA competition with six wins each, four draws and 29 goals apiece.
• Paris have lost only one of their last five meetings with Barcelona (W3 D1), triumphing 2-1 in Spain on Matchday 2 last season. Ferran Torres, now of Paris, put the home side ahead only for Mayulu and Gonçalo Ramos to score late in each half and give Paris the points.
• That was also Paris’ third successive away win against Barcelona, with 10 goals scored and three conceded.
• However, Barça have been victorious in two of their last four games at Parc des Princes (D1 L1) including the last, a 3-2 win in the 2023/24 quarter-final first leg in which Raphinha scored twice – although Paris won the return in Spain 4-1 despite another Raphinha strike, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha scoring the French side’s first two goals.
• Paris have lost only three of their last 14 games against Spanish clubs (W8 D3), most recently drawing 0-0 at Athletic Club on Matchday 6 last season.
• Barcelona have lost three of their last four games versus French opponents (W1). They have won only four of their last 11 games involving Ligue 1 sides (D2 L5).
