The police have arrested a 40-year-old man identified as Nizam alias Nikki, a resident of South Bazaar in Kannur, allegedly a key member of a drug distribution network operating in the district.

According to the police, Nizam, who is also an accused in several alleged narcotic cases, was arrested from Bengaluru by a team led by Town inspector K.T. Akhil, acting on the instructions of District Police Chief B.V. Vijayabharath Reddy, Assistant Commissioner of Police M.P. Azad, and Town Inspector Mahesh Kandambeth.

Nizam was questioned after the police seized 153.379 grams of suspected MDMA from Mattannur on Monday (October 5). During the investigation, police reportedly obtained information that Nizam was involved in supplying drugs. A subsequent probe led to his arrest from Bengaluru.

Nizam is also an accused in a case registered last August involving the smuggling of suspected MDMA from Bengaluru to Kannur. In that case, 20.5 grams of MDMA, hidden inside a toy sent through a courier, was seized near Plaza Junction in Kannur from A. Faisal, 33, a native of Pinarayi, by the Kannur Town police and the DANSAF team.

The investigation reportedly established that Nizam had supplied the drug sold to Faisal. Faisal had also disclosed to the police that the narcotic had been brought from Bengaluru through a parcel.
