The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Wednesday decided to constitute a three-member committee comprising Cabinet Ministers to inquire into alleged irregularities and corruption associated with Jagananna colonies during the previous YSR Congress Party’s (YSRCP) tenure between 2019 and 2024.

The committee will also submit a detailed report within 45 days on restructuring plots allotted to beneficiaries who refused them and suggest ways to best utilise the leftover land in the colonies. It will examine the purchase of land unsuitable for housing and recommend measures for its effective utilisation.

The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat in Amaravati.

The committee will comprise Housing Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy, Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar.

The panel will examine allegations that land available at lower prices was purchased at allegedly inflated rates, besides looking into the acquisition of land reportedly unsuitable for housing. It will also inquire into other alleged irregularities associated with the Jagananna colonies.

The Cabinet decision follows serious allegations raised by Mr. Naidu over the housing scheme and land purchases made during the YSRCP regime. He raised the issue at a public meeting at Repalle in Bapatla district recently.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who addressed the meeting, had also alleged that then Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had failed to properly utilise funds released by the Centre to the State for construction and completion of houses.

Meanwhile, Mr. Naidu directed Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar to focus on prices and inflation in the State. He observed that the situation was almost under control, while stressing the need for continued attention to price-related issues.
