The southwest monsoon is likely to regain strength across Kerala after a brief hiatus, with the revival of active monsoon conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Kannur, Wayanad and Idukki districts on Wednesday (July 29, 2026) warning of intense heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours.

A yellow alert has also been issued for the remaining districts except for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha, where isolated heavy rain is expected during the next 24 hours.

According to a weather bulletin issued by the IMD, the monsoon conditions have strengthened under the influence of the deep depression over central parts of Chhattisgarh and adjoining north interior Odisha.

In addition, the position of the monsoon trough is favourable for the revival of the monsoon, with the western end of the monsoon trough lying near its normal position and eastern end at south of its normal position in lower tropospheric level.

The IMD has also issued heavy rainfall warnings for the next four days in Kerala, including an orange alert for Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikode on Thursday and a yellow alert for remaining parts of the State except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha.
