The ambitious Isarda dam project in Rajasthan’s Tonk district is set to meet the targets of water supply with the expediting of work. Built on the Banas river, Isarda is the State’s first high-tech dam using advanced Swedish hydraulic systems.

The project targets supplying water to urban areas through the main pipeline by next month, while the connections will be added in phases in the rural areas where the required water infrastructure has been completed.

Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, who visited Tonk district on Thursday (October 8, 2026), reviewed the progress of work on the dam and assessed the status of land acquisition for the project’s upcoming phase. Laying emphasis on timely completion, Mr. Srinivas said the dam would help resolve the issue of water shortage in neighbouring Dausa and Sawai Madhopur districts.

The dam project’s second phase stipulates water supply to the Ramgarh dam near Jaipur, which has largely remained dry since 2000, with an increase in its storage capacity to 10.77 thousand million cubic feet.

The Chief Secretary also reviewed the progress of ‘Jal Sanchay-Jan Bhagidari’ campaign in Tonk district, which involves public participation in the water conservation works. “The water user associations should be connected with the campaign and events like ‘Jal Chaupal’ should be organised regularly in the towns and villages,” Mr. Srinivasan said.
