A property inspector was gobsmacked when he found something wild that instantly boosted the value of the house during inspection – and the new owners were floored

A house inspector checked a property for a buyer to see everything was in order, and ended up discovering something that nobody knew existed, leaving him gobsmacked.

Ryan Edmiston, who has over 25 years of experience in property construction, provides buyers "with a thorough overview of your property, without the drama". However, when he went to one property in particular, there was a little bit of drama, as he got far more than he bargained for when looking at the house's garage. However, it wasn't the first time that he had spotted something completely unknown, increasing the value of the property.

"That’s not the first time I’ve found hidden areas in a house, but that was the best preserved time capsule that I’ve found in my 10 years of inspecting," he explained to Newsweek.

Taking to Instagram, he shared a room "above the garage" which looked like it had been used as an office space by someone who owned it previously.

"I popped my head up in an access hole in the garage ceiling, but there's definitely another door as I can see a ladder right there," Ryan shared in the video.

It turns out that from the main bedroom in the property, there was some shelving that moved and gave access from above the office-style room, and he was shocked he hadn't clocked it before.

"I don't think anybody has been here in years, possibly decades; it definitely smelled that way. There is no air movement in there," he shared.

He said it was "fun to find something new," and this would potentially increase the worth of the property as it's an additional space to be utilised.

"While inspecting the attic above the garage, I found a hidden room that nobody knew was there. Not the seller, not the buyer, and not either agent. You never know what you’re going to find crawling around attics all day," he captioned his clip.

Ryan also shared the current owners had been in the property for five years and didn't realised the space was there.

He told Newsweek the new buyers were excited about the room that wasn't on the floor plan.

"We were standing in the bedroom, and I gave the wife my flashlight and said pull on that bookcase. She looked terrified, but when she opened the door her and her husband thought it was the neatest thing," he explained, so it was a win.

In the comments, someone wrote: "I knew what house you were in the second you walked up to that bookcase! A friend lived there in the 80’s - 90’s and that was a playroom we spent hours in. Such a cool hidden room! Looks exactly like it did in the 80s! Thanks for the dose of nostalgia."

Another penned: "The craziest find at one of my inspections! That’s why we use your Ryan. You don’t just find the problems… You find more square footage!"
