Friday again marks deadline day for Canada and the United States to finalize a deal that would cushion the Canadian economy from the devastating blow of 50 per cent American tariffs. After initially managing a 3-day deadline extension from the White House, Canadian officials are once again in Washington trying get a deal over the finish line. Global’s MacKenzie Gray has more on the talks. Montreal police are getting ready to equip officers with body-worn cameras. The move comes after years of debate about the usefulness of the devices and comes following three high-profile incidents in which police were allegedly both the victim and the abuser. But as Phil Carpenter reports, not everyone is convinced the cameras will lead to better conduct by police. It was considered a dark time for many LGBTQ2S Canadians who served in the military, RCMP and federal public service when the "purge" occurred. From the 1950s to 90s, National Defence, the Mounties and the public service weeded out homosexuals, seen as vulnerable to enemies of state. Now - decades later, a monument to reflect on this period and remind people of this dark chapter has been unveiled in Ottawa. Eric Sorensen reports. Plus, a caver was rescued on Aug. 15, after being trapped vertically underground for hours at the Rat’s Nest Cave in Canmore, Alta., in a tight spot known as the “psych squeeze.” The Alberta/B.C. Cave Rescue team was called in to assist, using hammer-drills to remove rock, and for the first time - a new volunteer-developed cave radio that transmits signals through rock.
