You'd be forgiven if you thought members of The Royal Family wouldn't be kicking back watching reality TV, including Love Island, but for Prince Harry, that is his reality...

For somebody who grew up in the confines of Clarence House and Windsor Castle, it's hard to imagine Love Island being of interest. But Prince Harry has revealed he's partial to episodes of the ITV2 dating show.

In a new interview on The Joe Marler Will See You Now podcast, the Duke of Sussex shared insights into his life away from the closely guarded walls of the British institution. Now, the Duke and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, live in California with their two children and are financially independent.

Since quitting their roles as senior working royals, Harry has opened up in various interviews, but his chat with former rugby ace Marler provided more bizarre moments than we had anticipated. Here, we look at Harry's confessions we didn't see coming.

Love Island

Trashy television isn't something often associated with royals. It's hard to imagine: "Tonight... on Love Island..." echoing through the rooms of Windsor Castle, but Harry has revealed he's partial to watching the ITV dating show.

Although he didn't state which season he watched (could he be a fan of Molly-Mae Hague?), his rumoured ex-girlfriend Camilla Thurlow appeared on the show in 2017. It was during this time that Camilla met her now husband, Jamie Jewitt.

When asked what his favourite trashy TV show is, Harry responded: "Love Island." Co-host Jake Bhardwaj, baffled by Harry's admission, asked: "You watch Love Island?"

Harry replied: "I have watched, I have watched Love Island. God, I don't watch Love Island. I have watched Love Island. There's a big difference there, Jake."

Famous phone contacts

It's fair to say Harry's relationship with his family isn't the same after his decision to step back. But his most famous phone contact is quite surprising. His father is, of course, King Charles, he's partied with Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner and cites Oprah Winfrey as a friend – so who is Harry's most famous phone contact?

"Probably Dylan Hartley, or James Haskell. Decent. Right, you've seen them play rugby," he told Joe and Jake. This isn't what we expected Harry to say...

'Not ginger'

During the podcast recording, Harry was asked what people often get wrong about him, and the answer was quite surprising. "Uh, that I'm not ginger," the Duke said.

Marler responded: "Hang on, hang on, hang on, people get that wrong?" Harry, who now resides in Montecito with his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and their two children, added: "Yeah, people think I'm ginger, but I'm more sort of like, um, sunset auburn. Yeah? I don't know why that's funny."

As Joe laughed, co-host Jake Bhardwaj said: "Can we not laugh at the Duke, please? Yeah."

Autoglass Repair

It's one of the most recognisable TV jingles of all time, and one cannot help but sing along when they hear it, including Harry. The podcast heard some of Joe Marler's favourite phrases, with Harry having to guess what came afterwards.

"Okay, here we go. 'Autoglass repair…'" said Jake, with Harry replying: "Autoglass replace!" This left Jake and Joe impressed by the Duke, who added: "But that's on TV, we all... I had a TV, you had a TV, right? Right, so it's a commercial. Yes. Sure. We don't have different commercials, just so we're clear. Like, different estates don't have different commercials."

And it appears Harry was a fan of Paddy McGuinness' Take Me Out, too, as he recalled: "No lighty," after hearing "No likey..."

Bullied at school

It's hard to imagine that the Queen's grandson and the future King's son would be bullied at school. Despite Harry's status and protection from the Met Police, he still faced taunting from his peers at school.

Growing up, Harry attended the pre-preparatory school Wetherby School, then Ludgrove School in Berkshire, and eventually Eton College, close to his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth's home at Windsor Castle.

The decision to send Harry to Eton broke tradition for the Royal Family, with children previously being sent to Gordonstoun in Scotland, but like his brother, Prince William, he followed the Spencer family tradition of Eton.

After being laughed at after sharing he's not ginger, the Duke said: "Unless you want to, unless you want to call me ginge. You know? I got bullied a lot at school, called carrot top, right?"
