Hosted by Meerglas Cycles, Fenderfest is the spiritual successor to American framebuilding icon Peter Weigle’s French Fender Day. It’s a gathering of cyclists and fender enthusiasts dedicated to celebrated the niche but highly useful bike accessory. Alas, with French Fender Day discontinued, Tom of Meerglas Cycles has taken on the responsibility of organizing his own version in his home nation of Germany. With 2025 being the second edition of their Fenderfest, Igor Shteynbuk of Velo Orange made a pilgrimage, along with Peter himself, to attend this continuation of a storied celebration.
Detailed on the Velo Orange blog, Igor talks through his experience visiting the small town in Brandenburg, Germany, and what it was like at the second annual Fenderfest. With plenty of bikes, fenders, and racks to ogle at, it’s fair to say Meerglas and those involved have been successful in recreating the specific vibe that seemed inherent to Peter’s event.
