The midterm elections ― a referendum on the president and his party ― are less than two months away and Trump’s approval rating is at a record low. The Democrats are fighting to win back Congress, leading Trump to push for new voter requirement laws and toy with suggestions he’ll call a national security emergency ahead of the polls.

As a Sydney Morning Herald subscriber, you have access to tickets to join editor Jordan Baker at an exclusive live event as she unpacks the key issues of the upcoming midterms with political and international editor Peter Hartcher and columnist Jacqueline Maley.

They will be joined by two experts from the United States Studies Centre: chief executive Dr Michael Green and director of research Jared Mondschein. Subscribers will also hear from renowned US political analyst and bestselling author Larry Sabato. Sabato, appearing via video link from Virginia, will be in conversation with Herald columnist Bruce Wolpe.

Guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary drink on arrival and after the discussion.

This exclusive event is in partnership with the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney.
