Emma Raducanu will not participate in the 2026 Wimbledon championships after failing to shrug off a leg injury, with the British No 1 revealing she has sustained a stress fracture

Emma Raducanu has announced that she will not be competing at Wimbledon this year due to a stress fracture.

The British No 1 revealed on Sunday afternoon that she had been nursing a leg injury but still hoped to play in this year's tournament, which begins tomorrow.

But Raducanu would later confirm on the eve of the championships that she would unfortunately not be able to participate.

In an Instagram story, she wrote: “Hi everyone, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but sadly I’ve had to withdraw from this year’s Wimbledon.

“I’ve done everything possible to try to get to the start line tomorrow but after a final scan tonight, the niggle I’ve been managing has developed into a stress fracture.

“And I’ve been medically advised to stop pushing through.

“Playing at Wimbledon, in front of a home crowd, means everything to me, so this is really difficult to process.

“I want to thank you all for your support and encouragement. Especially at a time like this, it is invaluable. I look forward to seeing you when I’m back.”

Raducanu had been the 30th seed and was scheduled to face Antonia Ruzic on Court 1 in her Wimbledon opener on Monday.

Plagued by injuries in recent years, the 23-year-old's latest setback feels especially cruel given the excellent run she enjoyed at Queen's Club a fortnight ago, reaching the final where she was eventually bested 6-0 7-6 (8-6) by Croatia's Donna Vekic.

While that looked to have been the perfect preparation for Wimbledon, Raducanu will now have to sit out her home Grand Slam.
