Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAfter fantastic results at test screenings earlier in the year, the David Corenswet-starring sports drama, Mr Irrelevant, will be hitting cinemas on Christmas Day this year. Based on a true story, the film follows John Tuggle, an American football player who was given the title Mr Irrelevant after being the last pick of the last round in the 1983 NFL draft. This is the annual nickname tradition for anyone in that position.
The breakout star of last year’s Superman film will play the running back John Tuggle, who, after being drafted by the New York Giants, was awarded the Special Teams Player of the Year within his own team that same year. Tuggle, however, sadly died a few years later at the age of 25 after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
The film, being distributed by Paramount, also stars Michael Shannon, David Krumholtz and Isabel May, in roles that are unknown to us at the moment. The director Jonathan Levine is known for the two Seth Rogen-starring films 50/50 and Long Shot, as well as the horror-romance Warm Bodies.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, in its test screenings, the film scored 95 out of 100 with men over 35, whilst women over 35 gave it a rare 100 out of 100, landing with an overall score of 92. This film could be a hit to the heart for general audiences, but it will have to compete with the likes of Dune: Part Three, Avengers: Doomsday, and a new Jumanji film, which all release in the week before it.
Mr Irrelevant will hit US cinemas on December 25th; its UK release date is January 1st 2027.
