Reports of a blast in the city of Limassol have emerged online, with an emergency incident believed to be unfolding after a nightclub was reportedly rocked by an explosion.

According to local media, authorities in Limassol remain on high alert following an explosion in the city centre at approximately 3.30am local time.

As per local press, authorities in Limassol remain on high alert following an explosion in the city centre at about 3.30am local time.

Initial reports previously stated that the building targeted may have been a nightclub. As per the Cyprus Times, the building houses EDON, the youth wing of Cypriot communist political party The Progressive Party of Working People.

The explosion is understood to have caused damage to the building's entrance, along with a vehicle parked nearby on Megalou Alexandrou Street.

The scene has subsequently been cordoned off by police, according to reports, with an investigation now under way
