In an artificial intelligence-generated press junket, controversial AI "actor" Tilly Norwood is seeking recognition for AI performers. “I want to be regarded as a serious 'actor', pushing the boundaries of what performance can be, not just as a demonstration of AI's capabilities,” the animation generated by Particle6 on Monday said. Since Norwood was revealed to the public in September 2025 by Particle6 founder Eline van der Velden, the SAG-AFTRA union and many of its members have condemned replacing humans with “synthetics.” After suggesting AI performers should not be nominated in the same award categories as human actors – but should have their own – Norwood said, “Human actors bring their lived experience to improvisation, which I, as an AI, don't have.” The animation continued: “My craft is about creating performances in a different way through algorithms and data, which is its own kind of flexibility, wouldn't you say?"
