The Solapur division of Central Railway organised a comprehensive safety seminar and fire extinguisher demonstration for Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) at Solapur station on May 23. The initiative was aimed at enhancing onboard safety and emergency preparedness across the division.

Recognising TTEs as the first line of defence and first responders during unusual onboard incidents, the dedicated session focused on equipping frontline railway personnel with practical knowledge and confidence to effectively respond to fire-related emergencies in trains and station premises.

During the seminar, detailed explanations were provided regarding the classification and application of Dry Chemical Powder and Carbon Dioxide-type fire extinguishers. Frontline staff attended an awareness session on different classes of fire, namely Class A, B, C, D, and F fires, along with suitable extinguishing methods.

Safety officials provided practical guidance on handling, operation, and safe usage during emergencies, which was paired with a live demonstration to improve the practical confidence of the participating staff. The training also encompassed the use of general firefighting equipment available in trains and station premises.

Crucial guidance was imparted regarding initial response actions during onboard fire incidents and important safety precautions. Staff were counselled on the prompt reporting of smoke or fire incidents, ensuring immediate communication with railway control offices and officials concerned. The seminar also focused on passenger safety, evacuation procedures, and crowd management during fire-related emergencies.

Officials emphasised the absolute necessity of maintaining alertness during duty hours and having proper knowledge of firefighting equipment.

Additionally, the TTEs were counselled against carrying or allowing the transportation of inflammable and hazardous materials in trains and station premises, while also receiving safety awareness regarding electrical fire hazards and preventive measures. The Safety Department screened a special instructional video regarding the isolation of the Fire and Smoke Detection System (FSDS), Alarm Chain Pulling (ACP), and Failure Indication-cum-Brake Application (FIBA) systems.

Information regarding the operation of valves and handling emergency systems in moving trains proved highly beneficial for the participating staff.

The interactive session concluded with Safety Counsellors patiently addressing doubts and queries raised by the staff, and providing practical guidance for real-life emergency scenarios.
