A moving car was completely gutted after it caught fire near Eenchakkal in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday evening (September 1, 2026).
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on the service road near the under-construction overbridge.
The driver, identified as Shameer of Attingal, along with two other occupants of the car, escaped unhurt. According to Fire and Rescue Services personnel, the driver and other passengers managed to get out of the vehicle soon after noticing smoke billowing from the engine compartment.
Local residents attempted to douse the flames with water, but their efforts proved futile. Two fire tenders from the Chacka Fire and Rescue Services station reached the spot and brought the fire under control.
The vehicle was completely destroyed in the blaze. A short circuit in the engine compartment is suspected to have triggered the fire.
