Defence Symposium 2.0 is part of Techfest 2025, scheduled to take place from December 22 to 24 on the IIT’s Powai campus.
In a first, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay’s annual science and technology festival, Techfest, is set to bring together India’s top military officers, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, for a flagship event—Defence Symposium 2.0.
Defence Symposium 2.0 is part of Techfest 2025, scheduled to take place from December 22 to 24 on the IIT’s Powai campus. The symposium aims to explore critical themes such as modern warfare, shifting military priorities, joint-force coordination, and the impact of emerging technologies on national security.
“As the principal military advisor to the Government of India, General Chauhan’s strategic vision, operational depth, and leadership in defence transformation stand at the heart of this year’s symposium,” stated a note shared by the Technfest 2025 team.
General Anil Chauhan is India’s seniormost military officer and the architect of its integrated theatre command. At the symposium, the 29th Army chief, General Manoj Pande (Retd); the 25th Navy chief, Admiral R Hari Kumar (Retd); and the 27th Indian Air Force chief, Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari (Retd) will join General Anil Chauhan.
Aditya Khandegar, media and publicity manager at Techfest 2025, said, “Together these four national leaders bring decades of battlefield experience, strategic foresight, and operational excellence that have shaped India’s defence posture and geopolitical readiness. Their session will explore India’s evolving military priorities, joint-force energy, modern warfare, and the critical role of technology in national security.”
While the symposium will be the highlight of this edition of Techfest, other events on the campus include multiple workshops on topics like artificial intelligence, prompt engineering, and algorithmic trading; competitions such as hackathons and robot-wars; and an Innovation Challenge, where participants will have to provide an innovative technology solution for real-world problems, among others.
Techfest is known as Asia’s largest science and technology festival.
