Skydance, the merged deal between Warner Bros. and Paramount, which was completed earlier this month, has seen its second top-spot weekend at the box office with the release of DCU’s Clayface, DC’s first horror movie directed by James Watkins from a script by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. The film, based on the Batman villain of the same name, stars Tom Rhys Harries as an upcoming, award-nominated actor, Matt Hagen, who is left facially disfigured at the hands of a mob boss attack and is left careerless and isolated. With the help of a new scientific experiment involving the rapid healing of skin and tissue, Hagen’s body succumbs to a startling transformation involving his skin turning to clay, proving helpful in a new quest for revenge.

Additional stars include Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan.

Coming in as the third installment to the new DCU following James Gunn’s Superman and Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl, Watkins’ Clayface has grossed a global total of $46.5 million from US/Canadian ticket sales of $24 million and international ones of $22.5 million, meaning it has made $16.5 million from its budget of $30 million. This also places Watkins’ fifth feature as having the third-best performance during its opener in the new DC cinematic universe, with Superman’s $220 million opening from $122 million in American and Canadian sales and $95 million overseas taking the top spot, followed by Supergirl grossing $37.1 million in North American territories and $25.5 million internationally to come to the global total of $62.6 million.

Skydance’s first box office success was with Kitao Sakurai’s Street Fighter, based on the video game series of the same name, which opened to $31 million globally. The film stars Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Callina Liang, Joe ‘Roman Reigns’ Anoa’i, David Dastmalchian, Cody Rhodes, Eric André, Andrew Schulz, Vidyut Jammwal, Orville Peck, Don Lee, Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, and Jason Momoa.

Additional box office news sees You Can See Everything, one of the hottest topics in film right now, taking over US-based theatres with a current box office gross of $45.1 million, coming in as $38.1 million over its initial budget. The meta-documentary focuses on Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, who promised a breakthrough in medicine with her new methods of blood testing, which could test for multiple conditions with minimal amounts of blood needed, only to be exposed as a fraudster.

You Can See Everything is Canadian actor and comedian Nathan Fielder’s directorial debut, with Primetime director Lance Oppenheim also being credited. It was estimated to gross $7-$8 million for its opening weekend in 855 theatres, with these numbers being pushed to $12–14 million after grossing $5.5 million on its first day alone. It is now the second-best opening weekend for a non-musical documentary behind Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11, which grossed $23.9 million at its opening weekend.

You Can See Everything will hit UK theatres on 2oth November.
