A day after the Monsoon Session of the State legislature was adjourned abruptly, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday announced that it will launch a 10-day padayatra from Raichur to Ballari from September 1 to create awareness against the alleged failures of the Congress government.

Announcing the details in Bengaluru, State president B.Y. Vijayendra said the march will cover 200 km from September 1 to 10.

The BJP’s coalition partner, the Janata Dal (Secular), is supporting the padayatra, he said, and noted that various Central Ministers will participate in the inauguration as well as the culmination of the march.

He said the party will create awareness on various issues including corruption, scam in KPSC etc.. during the padayatra.

Both Mr. Vijayendra and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok accused the government of abruptly winding up the legislature session out of fear of the Opposition that had stepped up its attack demanding resignation of Minister B. Nagendra, who has been chargesheeted in the case of embezzlement of funds meant for the welfare of ST communities.

Mr. Ashok said the government had decided to cut short the session after the announcement by the Opposition that a dharna would be held demanding the resignation of Mr. Nagendra.

Mr. Ashok alleged that although the Opposition was ready for a discussion on all issues, the Congress government was not prepared. “The BJP leaders visited various districts and conducted studies on drought. A drought study committee too had been formed. Documents had been collected regarding the NICE toll irregularities. Appropriate documents had also been collected regarding KPSC irregularities. Documents had been collected on the garbage tender scam in Bengaluru as well. We had prepared to speak on issues such as the agreement made with industrialist Gautam Adani in the tunnel road project etc. But no opportunity was given to speak by the government,” he alleged.
