Shrimp saladOverall exports of shrimps totaled US$23.5 billion worth of international sales in 2025.
The overall value for globally exported shrimp results from a 4.8% increase from $22.4 billion five years earlier in 2021 a 10.3% acceleration from $21.3 billion during 2024.
Values by Type of Exported Shrimps
Frozen shrimps represent 99.9994% of all shrimp exports for 2024. Fresh, live, dried, salted or smoked shrimps represent a miniscule 0.0006% of the overall total.
The value of exported frozen shrimps grew by 4.9% from $22.4 billion in 2021 to $23.5 billion during 2025. Year over year, exports for frozen shrimps appreciated by 10.3% compared to $21.3 billion during 2024.
In contrast exports of fresh, live, dried, salted and smoked shrimps shrank by -99.3% from $22.9 million in 2021 to $145,000 in 2025. Year over year, there was a dramatic 126.6% boost from $64,000 in 2024.
There are six different Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) codes for shrimps and prawns: 030613 and 030617 for frozen seawater shrimps and prawns; 030616 for frozen freshwater shrimps and prawns; 030623 and 030627 for fresh, salted or smoked seawater shrimps and prawns; and 030626 for fresh, salted or smoked freshwater shrimps and prawns.
Note that codes 030623, 030626 and 030627 were obsolete with null values for 2025.
Frozen seawater shrimps generated $21.9 billion in export sales during 2025, increasing by 6% from $20.6 billion in 2021 and accelerated by 11.1% from $19.7 billion during 2024.
Below are the 15 countries that sold the highest dollar value worth of globally exported frozen seawater shrimps.
- Ecuador: US$8.2 billion (37.5% of exported frozen seawater shrimps)
- India: $5 billion (22.7%)
- Vietnam: $1.7 billion (7.9%)
- Indonesia: $1.2 billion (5.5%)
- Argentina: $847.6 million (3.9%)
- Thailand: $569.5 million (2.6%)
- mainland China: $445.5 million (2%)
- Belgium: $388.7 million (1.8%)
- Spain: $369.1 million (1.7%)
- Netherlands: $357.8 million (1.6%)
- Bangladesh: $267.2 million (1.2%)
- Honduras: $228.2 million (1%)
- Peru: $217.3 million (1%)
- Malaysia: $177 million (0.8%)
- Venezuela: $167.2 million (0.8%)
By value, the listed 15 countries shipped 92.2% of all frozen seawater shrimps exported in 2025.
Among the above countries, the growth exporters of frozen seawater shrimps since 2021 were: Ecuador (up 61.2%), Belgium (up 53.9%), Netherlands (up 19.9%) and mainland China (up 0.8%).
Those countries that posted year-over-year declines in their exported frozen seawater shrimps sales were led by: Honduras (down -49%), Argentina (down -28.7%), Bangladesh (down -25.6%) and Malaysia (down -24.2%).
Frozen freshwater shrimps generated $1.63 billion in export sales during 2025, retreating by -6.8% from $1.75 billion 2021 but gaining 1.1% from $1.61 billion for 2024.

- Greenland: US$376.8 million (23.1% of exported frozen cold water shrimps)
- Denmark: $330 million (20.2%)
- Canada: $209.2 million (12.8%)

- Russia: $111.9 million (6.9%)
- Norway: $83.2 million (5.1%)

Among the above countries, the fastest-growing exporters of frozen cold water shrimps since 2021 were: Vietnam (up 1,269%), Norway (up 492.9%), Angola (up 369.9%) and the United Arab Emirates (up 152.2%).
Those countries that posted year-over-year declines in their exported frozen cold water shrimps sales were led by: United States of America (down -45.5%), Morocco (down -30%), Canada (down -22.3%) and Ecuador (down -19.3%).
Exports of freshwater fresh, live, salted or smoked freshwater shrimps amounted to $145,000 for 2025.
The Republic of Benin in Africa was the lone exporter of freshwater fresh, live, salted or smoked freshwater shrimps.
