The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has dismissed reports claiming that more than 500 electric buses remain off the road every day, calling the allegations "completely false" and factually incorrect.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, BMTC said it currently operates a fleet of 1,760 electric buses across Bengaluru through four operators NTPC Electric Supply Company Limited, Switch Mobility Automotive Limited, TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited, and OHM Global Mobility Private Limited. The corporation stated that the buses are operating successfully on scheduled routes.

According to BMTC, over 1,700 electric buses are deployed daily, with the corporation working closely with operators to ensure uninterrupted services and maintain high operational efficiency.

The corporation clarified that in any large public transport system, around 1–2% of buses may experience temporary service interruptions owing to routine technical maintenance, battery servicing, staff availability, or other unavoidable operational reasons. Such interruptions are normal and should not be misconstrued as large-scale non-operation of the fleet, it said.
