Officials found poor personal hygiene among food handlers, use of plastic cutting boards and blocked drainage.

BENGALURU: Several prominent city clubs were found violating food safety norms during an inspection drive conducted by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Tuesday, with officials flagging unhygienic food handling, improper storage and labelling violations.The inspections were conducted at 10 clubs, including Century Club, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Club, Race Course Club, Bowring Institute, Catholic Club, Badminton Club, Tennis Club, Vijayanagara Club, Mahalakshmi Layout Club and Malleshwaram Club.According to Srinivas K, commissioner, FDA, at the KSCA Club, officials found poor personal hygiene among food handlers, use of plastic cutting boards and blocked drainage.“A packet of K Shakti Toor Dal was also found with label violations, including absence of packing date, batch number and MRP. The frozen storage room was unhygienic, while vegetarian and non-vegetarian food was not stored separately. Tilapia fish was also found without mandatory label details,” he said.He also said the utensils-cleaning area at the club lacked hot water and was found to be unhygienic.At Bowring Institute, officials found rotten onions and ginger, Srinivas said.

“Storage practices were also found to be improper. Pest-control measures had not been carried out,” the commissioner said.FDA officials said the inspections were part of an ongoing drive to check food safety and hygiene standards at clubs and ensure compliance with prescribed regulations.In the last few weeks, FDA has inspected several food business operators (FBO) in the state, including star hotels, govt canteens, quick-commerce warehouses and hospital canteens.
