Barcelona bounced back from their Clasico defeat to Real Madrid in style as they thrashed Alaves 6-1 at Camp Nou.

Hansi Flick made it clear his confidence in his squad had not been impacted by their successive losses to Paris Saint-Germain and Madrid, and his side were imperious in getting back to winning ways.

Raphinha opened the scoring and, though a makeshift Barca defence was somewhat fortunate not to concede an equaliser, they doubled their as Fermin Lopez found the net from a tight angle.

A second from Raphinha effectively put the game beyond doubt four minutes before half-time, before an excellent first half was capped by a rasping Lamine Yamal strike in injury time.

Yamal emulated Raphinha in netting his second soon after the hour mark, with substitute Anthony Gordon the last player to get in on the act before Mariano Diaz scored a late consolation for the visitors.

Barcelona go back to the top of LaLiga having earlier been leapfrogged by Atletico Madrid following their 2-0 win over Levante.

It took just eight minutes for Barca to break the deadlock, Raphinha scuffing in off the post with the entire goal to aim at after Pedri’s superb pass with the outside of the boot sent in Fermin to square for the Brazilian.

Alaves had a succession of chances to restore parity thereafter, with Abderrahmane Rebbach firing wide before Angel Perez saw an effort brilliantly saved by Joan Garcia and Lucas Boye had a header blocked by Rodri.

The visitors’ failure to take any of those chances was punished as Fermin’s swerving effort from close to the byline deceived Antonio Sivera and found the far corner.

Raphinha was guilty of profligacy as he turned over the bar with the goal at his mercy following great work down the right from Yamal, who was then denied by a fine Sivera save.

But Raphinha atoned for that miss as he expertly controlled Fermin’s reverse pass before coolly slotting home his second.

The pick of the first-half goals, however, came from Yamal, who met Joao Cancelo’s lay-off with the unerring drive into the bottom-right corner from the edge of the area.

Karim Adeyemi wasted a gilt-edged chance to make it 5-0 early in the second half, but a fifth did arrive as Yamal doubled his tally with an impudent dinked finish over Sivera, the goal given following a VAR review after the Spain star was initially ruled to have strayed offside when latching on to Gabriel Jesus’ pass.

Yamal was soon withdrawn ahead of Barca’s Champions League clash with Aston Villa, and his replacement Gordon made it 6-0 markedly similar fashion, racing down the left to beat a defender to a pass from Rodri and casually lofting the ball home.

Alaves’ fans were given a consolation to cheer as Diaz ensured a defence heavily impacted by injuries was breached by finding the bottom-left corner, though that proved only a footnote as Barcelona resumed normal service.
