Wow, a day of absolute domination ends for Bangladesh.

The Tigers end day one with nine wickets in hand, just 102 first-innings runs behind Australia.

Tanzid and Mominul reach stumps in the midst of a 60-run partnership, and, in truth, have looked largely untroubled against this much-vaunted Australian attack.

That came after Hasan Mahmud took six wickets as his team tore through a meek Australian batting lineup, with only Steve Smith (71) covering himself in anything resembling glory.

But even he was far from his best and shouldn't have had an opportunity to pass 50, dropped on 2 in the cordon.

He's speaking to Fox Cricket on the boundary, and is sounding pretty flat.

"Not our best (day), still plenty of cricket to be played obviously, 100 down Bangladesh are and one wicket, would've been nice to take a few more," Smith said.

"Hopefully we bowl well in the morning, pick up a few early ones and put a bit of pressure on."

This, you imagine, will be the final over of the day.

Mitchell Starc the man to bowl it.

He's coming over the wicket to Mominul, who is back and defending, and then watching one fly past him.

Starc takes an age getting back to his mark. The Australians certainly won't be sneaking an extra over in.

Another leave outside off stump, and Starc is pinged for a front-foot no ball.

Mominul gets one on the pads and he works a single.

Tanzid defends the final ball of the day.

Ten minutes remaining in an absolute shocker of a first day for Australia.

The hosts have looked flat, uninterested in this final session, seemingly out of ideas against a Bangladeshi top order that has seriously struggled in recent times.

Hazlewood goes over the wicket and Tanzid isn't made to play.

He's then getting underneath a short one.

Tanzid is behind one and defending.

Full and straight from Starc and Mominul is nudging one through midwicket for a single.

Starc took 1-21 in his first five-over spell, and has retained the headband on his return to the bowling crease.

Again, the pauses are gargantuan between deliveries as we move into the final 15 minutes of play.

Four! Straight and full from Starc and Tanzid is making no mistake with his leg glance, clipping very fine for another boundary.

Tanzid is completely untroubled in batting one into the offside for a single.

That's over.

Hazlewood continues his work from around the wicket, and Tanzid is picking off a single.

Bangladesh are scoring at more than four an over at the moment, and have looked almost chanceless in making their way to 1-82.

Hazlewood, again, taking his time between deliveries.

He eventually arrows one in on a fifth stump line and Mominul is leaving.

Divine! Maybe a touch overpitched from Hazlewood, but that's a brilliant shot from Mominul. He steps forward and creams his drive through point. Four more runs.

Mominul works a single and Hazlewood is pinged for a front-foot no ball.

It's a dot to end the over.

Lyon continues around the wicket to the left-handed Tanzid, and floats a tempter out wide, which the Bangladeshi batter is more than happy to leave alone.

Close! Lyon gets good flight and a little bit of turn, and Tanzid is forward and pushing aerially back towards the bowler. Lyon throws himself towards the ball but can't quite get a hand on the ball.

Through! Too short from Lyon and Mominul is back in the crease and creaming one behind point. It's a lovely late cut and another boundary for Bangladesh.

Josh Hazlewood returns to the attack after picking up 0-9 in his first four-over spell.

He's coming around the wicket to Tanzid, who is back and compact and defending.

There's a real lag between balls at the moment as the day nears its conclusion.

Not a whole lot of zip out there from the Australians, that's for sure.

Tanzid is swivelling and pulling, running a single.

Mominul waits on one and opens the face, gliding one backward of point and for a couple.

They're looking shockingly short of ideas out there, Australia.

Hazlewood finishes off the over with a good one, beating the outside edge.

Footwork! Ooft, that's pretty tasty from Mominul, who shuffles up the track and flicks Lyon over mid-on and to the boundary.

Big swing! Tanzid gets one in the arc and goes for the big swing out to cow corner. He doesn't quite time it and the ball plugs in the outfield, with the batters running three.

And that's over.

Uppercut! Beautifully watched by Mominul, who stands up to a Cummins short ball and helps it on its way over Carey and to the boundary for four!

Mominul is chopping into the ground and it's well saved by Marnus in the cordon.

Cummins fires in another short ball, and, once again, Mominul is equal to it, riding the bounce and working a single behind square.

All looking pretty straightforward for Bangladesh right now...

Uppish! More short stuff from captain Pat and Tanzid is rocking back but not quite timing his pull shot. However, it has enough on it to clear the infield and the batters return for a couple.

Nathan Lyon is thrown the ball for the first time today, and Australia's greatest off spinner of all time is coming around the wicket to Mominul, looking for some turn away from the leftie.

However, Mominul is able to make the most of a bit of a loosener from Lyon, working a full one out into the leg-side for a couple.

Lyon works his way into the over and finishes it with some rhythm, only costing a further single.

Cummins is coming over the wicket to the left-handed Tanzid now.

He bangs in a short one, then pitches one up. Nothing much happening out there for the Australian captain.

Tanzid squirts one out into the leg-side and the batters run a couple.

The sun will be going down at 6:42 this evening Phillip. That's almost two hours away.

We've got about 40 minutes of play left in the day.

Four! Poor from Green, and Mominul is more than happy just to sneak forward and cream a full toss through the off-side for a boundary.

Good defence from Mominul.

Slashed! Short and wide from Green and Mominul has to do little more than flash at it. The ball flies off the toe of the bat ad to the fence well behind point.

A pretty average Green over comes to an end.

Shadows lengthening in Darwin, as Cummins comes around the wicket to the left-handed Tanzid.

Australia desperate for a couple more scalps in this final hour of play.

Tanzid is shouldering arms outside off stump.

Straighter and fuller from Cummins, but Tanzid is up to the challenge, pressing forward and defending back to the bowler.

This has been a pretty considered, resolute showing from the Bangladeshi batter.

Four! That's a lovely shot from Tanzid! He's on the front foot and pushing through the off-side. Perfectly timed and it flies to the boundaries.

Tanzid gets underneath a short ball and that's over.

Mominul is 163cm tall. 197cm Cam Green must seem like a giant to him.

Mominul lets the first couple of ball pass harmlessly by.

Green needs to adjust his length to the shorter man here, but that time just lets it fly down past off stump, looking to entice Mominul into a rash shot.

Tight leave outside off, the ball angling in past the stumps and there is a cry of encouragement from Marnus Labuschagne.

Solid defence from Mominul when he has to face a delivery he has to play.

Green is bowling at over 136km/h, and bowls out a maiden.
