A day after Alex de Minaur crashed out of Wimbledon and turned his attention to his imminent wedding, Australian tennis has climbed off the grassy canvas.

Marc Polmans and Storm Hunter have played their way into the mixed doubles final, while Thanasi Kokkinakis and his American partner, Aleksandar Kovacevic, are into a men's doubles semifinal.

Polmans and Hunter beat European pairing Mate Pavic and Fanny Stollar 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

In the final, they will face the second seeds Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia and Argentina's Marcelo Arevalo.

The Australian pair should not lack confidence. In the round of 16, they beat the reigning French and US Open champions, Andrea Vavassori and Sara Errani.

Kokkinakis and Kovacevic beat Austin Krajicek and Nicola Mektic 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

In the semis, they will play world number one pair Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara, who won at Wimbledon in 2024, defeating Australia's Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson in the final.

Purcell and Matt Ebden won the men's doubles in 2022, with Ebden pairing with Sam Stosur to the mixed final the same year.

Last year, Rinky Hijikata also reached the decider of the men's doubles, while Hunter was a women's finalist in 2023.

Since Ash Barty won the women's singles at the Australian Open in 2022, and Nick Kyrgios reached the Wimbledon men's singles final the same year, it has been the doubles players that have kept Australia's flag flying in grand slams.

Purcell and Thompson triumphed in the men's doubles at the US Open in 2024. In Melbourne, Kyrgios and Kokkinakis won that event in 2022, and Hijikata and Jason Kubler the following year.

And Olivia Gadecki and John Peers have won the last two mixed doubles Australian Open finals.
