Mainland Air chief executive Philip Kean praised his former student Smit Machchhar after the Flydubai captain helped avert disaster during Wednesday’s cockpit attack. “Quite proud of the guy really,” Kean said, while Hindu priests in India offered special prayers Thursday for the wounded pilot’s recovery. According to Israeli officials, Machchhar opened the cockpit door after his co-pilot stabbed him in an alleged attempt to crash the Israel-bound plane, allowing passengers and crew to overpower the suspect. Two pilots travelling as passengers landed the aircraft safely in Saudi Arabia, with all 174 people on board surviving.
