About 20 lakh names were left out following the first phase of the special intensive revision (SIR) in Punjab, with authorities citing reasons such as permanent relocation, absence, death, and duplicate entries.

State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra said on Tuesday that the house-to-house enumeration phase under the SIR was completed across all 23 districts and 117 Assembly constituencies.

According to data from the CEO’s office, Punjab had 2,14,61,043 registered electors as of June 9. Of these, 1,93,94,408 citizens actively participated in the SIR by submitting enumeration forms by August 3.

The total number of uncollectable forms, categorised under absent, shifted, dead and duplicate, stands at 20,66,635, which accounts for 9.63% of the total electors.

A total of 5,74,568 electors were listed as dead while 4,12,715 were found to be untraceable or absent. As many as 9,44,131 electors were recorded as permanently shifted out and 1,19,145 were found to be enrolled elsewhere.

The CEO said any person inadvertently left out can file claims and objections between August 13 and September 12.

Unmapped electors

Ms. Mitra said 93.40% of electors in the draft roll have been mapped. In compliance with the instructions from the Election Commission, the process of issuing notices to unmapped electors in the State will be initiated from August 13, she said.
